Music Maze 2022 - 2023, by BCMG Learning and Participation 20/09/2022

Some of the Studio's students participated in the Music Maze, held by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group at the Symphony Hall the past Sunday. They incorporated poetry and different musical instruments in this piece. A few musicians also played the oboe, cello and trumpet to accompany the children.

The older children participated in the composers' workshop at the same time.

Great opportunities, especially when they are free!

THIS… I believe as a child, I MEMORIZED all the key signatures (much like the multiplication table).

I now teach ways to UNDERSTAND music theory, instead of just memorizing lists. Plus, we use hundreds of music theory games, apps and resources!

R. has composed an exciting piece of music based on the circus's knife throwing performance.

Through these projects, students create their own stories through music, practise note writing (and therefore, note reading), put music theory into practice, as well as create a final product that they can share with their loved ones.

What other creative projects would you recommend us try in the future?

We have begun our composition month! As a year-end fun project, students are composing their own pieces. Thanks to 's amazing resources, students as young as four are making their own tunes. Older students have a chance to write their own lyrics.

This year, I am asking the students to write directly on the pages before using the software, MuseScore.

had a really good clip speaking about the importance of writing the notes out by hand (a bit like doing maths using pencil and paper vs solving the problem solely online).

The students will then play their pieces and we will upload it online for them share. There might be a chance to use for backing tracks/background music to their pieces too!
