What a woman! Proud to be ruining our tuition company from the same premises 💪
Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re proud to celebrate a true local trailblazer - Elizabeth Smollen.
Arriving in England as a teenager from war-torn Poland in the early 1950s, Elizabeth settled first in Birkenhead before making her home in Rock Ferry.
In 1964, she broke barriers by opening a scooter shop right here in our premises — at a time when female business owners, especially in the motor trade, were few and far between. But Elizabeth wasn’t just running a business... she was racing scooters too!
Her courage, resilience and determination embody everything International Women’s Day stands for. She built a life from the challenges of displacement, contributed to our local community, and proved that women belong in every space - from the classroom to the workshop, from business ownership to the racetrack.
At Space to Learn we’re inspired by women like Elizabeth who show our students that strength, ambition and passion can shape extraordinary futures.
Here’s to the women who came before us, the women leading today, and the girls we’re helping to empower for tomorrow. 🤍
