🥋 BEYOND THE BLACK BELT
“I am definitely not the same kid that first started Taekwon-Do.”
When Jack wrote about his journey to Black Belt, one memory stood out.
His very first grading.
He was around seven years old and remembers sitting in the car crying because he didn't want to go in.
The thought of walking into the hall and performing in front of everyone was terrifying.
Fast-forward through years of training and Jack had experienced plenty more challenges.
He entered one of his first competitions convinced he was going to do brilliantly…
…and didn't score a single point.
At the time, even the bronze medal he received felt like a reminder that he had failed.
Years later, he looked at that same medal completely differently.
It represented the fact that he had stepped into the ring and tried.
It became part of the journey towards his first gold medal… and then his second.
There was even a stage around green belt when Jack wanted to quit completely.
Training was hard.
He was bored.
He didn't feel as though he was improving.
But he kept going.
And eventually something changed.
He realised he actually loved Taekwon-Do.
When Jack reflected on everything those years had taught him, he summed it up in three words:
Confidence. Acceptance. Determination.
That is why we believe the journey to Black Belt is about so much more than learning how to kick, punch or perform a pattern.
A child who once couldn't bring himself to walk into a grading hall learned to walk into difficult situations anyway.
A competitor who once thought losing meant failure learned that losing is simply part of improving.
And a student who nearly quit discovered what can happen when you keep going.
The belt is something they wear.
The person they become earning it is something they carry for life. 🐺💙

🎓💙 WE COULDN’T BE PROUDER! 💙🎓
We’ve just found out that every one of our TSX students receiving their GCSE results today passed and achieved the grades they needed to move on to the next stage of their lives! 🙌
That is absolutely fantastic news, and we are so proud of every single one of them.
For us, TSX has always been about far more than kicking and punching. It’s about helping young people develop the confidence, discipline, resilience and leadership skills that they can carry with them into every area of life.
Watching these young people grow from students into confident young adults — and increasingly into leaders and role models for the next generation at TSX — is something very special.
They are not just progressing through school, college and their future careers…
They are leading the way. 🐺🥋
Massive congratulations to you all. Enjoy this moment — you’ve earned it! 👏🎉
The whole TSX family is incredibly proud of you. 💙

🎓 GOOD LUCK TO OUR TSX STUDENTS! 🎓
A huge GOOD LUCK to all of our TSX students receiving their GCSE results today! 💙🥋
Whatever is written on that piece of paper, remember that your results are only one part of your journey.
The discipline, resilience, confidence and determination you’ve developed along the way will take you far beyond the classroom.
We’re incredibly proud of all the hard work you’ve put in, and we hope you get the results you’ve been working towards.
Believe in yourself, be proud of how far you’ve come, and keep moving forward.
Good luck everyone! 🍀💙

🎉 THANK YOU FOR ALL THE BIRTHDAY MESSAGES! 🎉
I had an absolutely fantastic birthday weekend and just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who sent messages, cards and birthday wishes. They were very much appreciated. 🙏
It actually started with my Mum and Dad treating me, Emelia and her mum, Angela, to a lovely birthday lunch at the Dog & Gun. It was really nice to sit down, catch up and spend some proper time together before the weekend got considerably busier! ❤️
🥋 Friday night then started the Taekwon-Do part of the weekend brilliantly, with Master & Ma’am Tizick visiting TSX with some of their students to train alongside us.
I’ll admit, I was actually a little nervous beforehand! They’d never seen me teach before, and with Master Jo, Ma’am May and Ma’am Lewis all in attendance as well, there were certainly a few experienced eyes around the room! 😂
But what a great class it turned out to be.
It was a real pleasure teaching the TST students and seeing everyone gel so quickly. The atmosphere was brilliant — high energy, lots of hard work, plenty of laughs and a really positive training environment.
In fact, I was enjoying teaching the session so much that I completely lost track of time and left no time whatsoever for patterns! 🤦♂️😂
🥊 Saturday afternoon saw the Tizicks return for another session, this time working through sparring rounds and some important team patterns practice ahead of the European Championships.
Considering the team haven’t had a huge amount of time practising their team patterns together yet, they worked really well. You can already see the group starting to gel, and there’s plenty for us to build on over the coming weeks. 👊🏴
🔥 Then on Saturday evening we swapped doboks for the BBQ!
We had the Euro competitors and their parents over to our house for a get-together, and it turned into a brilliant night.
Everyone got on incredibly well, there was plenty of food, plenty of laughs and, judging by the photos, things became progressively less sensible as the evening went on! 😂
One of the things I love most about martial arts is that it becomes about so much more than simply training.
Different clubs can train together. Students compete alongside one another. Parents become friends. Instructors share ideas. And somewhere along the way, you build a genuine martial arts family.
A brilliant birthday weekend surrounded by family, friends and some fantastic people.
Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a memorable one. ❤️🥋
