⭐️STUDENT SPOTLIGHT⭐️
Everyone Get the real inside story from our students!

We have hundreds of reviews from our lovely parents and we are so grateful for the feedback. It is also important to gather the thoughts of our students too - their opinions matter. I am proud that our close-knit setting allows our tutors to develop a more personal connection with students - we are NOT a franchise and one size doesn't fit all with us. I wanted to share real, honest reviews from our students that will hopefully give future pupils and their families, the peace of mind that we are much more than a tutoring service. Krissi X

🏆RUSHCLIFFE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR 2022
Everyone A year on and I'm still in shock for being honoured with this fabulous award - particularly for doing something I have such a love for. To beat hundreds of businesses, throughout the whole of the area, was truly humbling.

Myself and my brilliant dedicated team have had an outstanding year, with many great successes. We are so proud of our students who have done exceptionally well and attained fantastic grades.

The hard work has already started as we enter the 2023/24 academic year. We welcome back our returning students and a warm welcome to all our new pupils as they begin their journey with us.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Watch this space...there's exciting times ahead!!! Krissi X

🎉EXAM SUCCESS
Message from Krissi Saccoh
Director, The Tutor Boss

"It has been a rollercoaster two weeks with both A Level results and GCSE. We always knew the boundary for all exams would be raised, but the impact has been higher than I had anticipated and I know many other educators will be feeling the same.

The Maths and English boundaries were quite high and the foundation level grades in particular, suffered because of this. Some students who would ordinarily have gained a 5 saw themselves on grades 3 & 4 in some instances.

🎉However, overwhelmingly our students did exceptionally well attaining the following grades:

⭐️A LEVEL
100% Gained Grades A*-A

⭐️GCSE
97% Gained Grades 5-9*
70% Gained Grades 7-9*

*Figures based on grades reported to us

If your child is in Year 11 it is imperative that the hard work starts now and a revision plan is put in place asap".

❗️We have a limited number of online spaces available for September. To book a call to discuss your child's future learning, please email: [email protected]

If for whatever reason your child didn’t attain the grades necessary for their first choice route, this is a handy reminder there are lots of other options.

I failed my maths first time round and went on to be a head teacher (and successfully re did my maths).
Sometimes the straight lines are wiggly but we get there anyway!!

24/08/2023

We are so emotional today because…

🎉OUR STUDENTS HAVE YET AGAIN SMASHED THEIR GCSES

GCSEs are the first major exams the majority of these students have taken since primary, and the pressure of exam after exam can take its toll. Plus it’s been a much tougher year for students sitting exams, as there has been a return to pre-pandemic grading in England this summer. Over 300,000 fewer top GCSE grades have been given out according to reports.

Our students and tutors have worked so hard and everyone should be so pleased with their achievements, even if it wasn’t exactly what they wanted.

👌Today is a proud day for us all.

21/08/2023

It’s GCSE week and always a very tense time for us, our students and their families.

It has been announced this morning that 300,000 less top GCSE grades have been given out than any year since 2019…

I know my students and team have worked super hard all year.

Let’s get it!

18/08/2023

🎉CONGRATULATIONS to The Tutor Boss A Level students who have not only achieved an amazing 100% pass rate, but have ALL GAINED A GRADE A!!!

Even with all the challenges they have faced over the last couple of years, they continued to work hard, both remotely and in class. These results are a great testament to the hard work of these students and the dedication of our exceptional specialist tutor Kirsten Lacey.

👏Well done to each and every one of you - we are bursting with pride!!!

Happy Saturday. Just wanted to share a wonderful gift I received today from one of my Yr11’s. He’s a keen and very talented artist and photographer. This morning he gifted me three pieces of art he had painted for me.
Not only that, but his mum brought him to my home, they aren’t local!

It’s hard to grasp the detail on a picture, but this is the one I’ve hung in my office this evening. The connection we make with our students as teachers is absolutely priceless.

Thank you so much Luke.

12/06/2023

Today I taught my final Year 11 lesson of the academic year.

Thank you to all the lovely parents who sent emails of thanks, cards and popped up with gifts.

This year I’ve had a lot of touching messages from students themselves. That’s what is really important to me, because they are the ones I see week in and week out.

One of my students said last week ‘I never told you this, but I failed my English SATs. When I came to you I was getting 3/4 and now I’m a solid 7/8. I can’t thank you enough’. He’s a boy of few words, so this meant the world to me.

To my super fave primary student who was awarded most improved student, and to all my students who came to me hating a subject, often not liking school, but who leave liking both a lot more (well maybe not school 😂).

Going to miss this cohort so much I cannot tell you. A few tears were shed this last week.

Thanks as always for supporting my small business and the team at Tutor Boss.

Thank you to Isabel for my beautiful flowers. Good luck for your next exam on Monday 😊

The main exam timetable begins today. Both an exciting and nerve wracking time! Remember revision is important for your kids, but so is reducing their stress levels, checking on their welfare and encouraging rest and relaxation.
Good luck to all of our Yr11 and 13’s.

💜 International Women's Day
So, today we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women globally. We come together to celebrate women's achievements and rally for women's equality. This year the theme is 'Embrace Equity'.

💜 The woman I'm celebrating today is, well a no-brainer really, Frances Annie Nixon.

Frances was born in Staffordshire in the 1920’s she was one of two children, having an older brother. She lived through the war, which was to have a profound effect on her for the duration of her life. She married young and subsequently had four children. Frances divorced her husband at a time when it wasn’t a thing. She wanted more for herself and felt stifled. Consequently, this found her moving to Derby with her youngest child, with nowhere to live. Frances was to eventually find solace in a shared house for ‘blacks and Irish’. Never one to let anything get the better of her, she swiftly moved in.

Frances set up as a dressmaker to make ends meet and worked hard throughout the rest of her life, working later as a carer and a midwife. She remained single from the age of 40 to 89, when she died. She was a real trailblazer, a hardcore feminist and transformed the trajectory of the women in her family.

💜Frances Annie Nixon was my Grandma.

My Gran lives on in both my Daughters, particularly my eldest who started her own publishing company with the money my gran left her. All her self-published books are published under Nixon House. My Grans last name and my birth name.

💜The last few weeks also saw my Daughter's new book 'Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute' published, so a double celebration!

◾READING: WHAT CATEGORY DOES YOUR CHILD FALL INTO?

📚So with World Book Day (UK & Ireland) starting this week, it got me thinking...Children tend to fall into 3 categories when it comes to reading:

1. Loves reading, always a book nearby

2. Not really fussed, will read if they have been told to

3. Detests it!

For many children, reading just doesn’t come easy. Most will learn to read naturally once they develop the preliminary skills. However, I do feel sometimes, the constant testing in our education system puts them off and this sadly can have a knock-on effect, which can kill off ‘reading for pleasure'. We can encourage our children, here's a few tips:

✅Make time for reading but at an appropriate time, that suits all. Sometimes bedtime isn’t right after a long, tiring day.

✅Allow your child to choose the reading material. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a book, could be an audio book to start with, try a sports comic or magazine, cereal box, picture dictionary, joke book, or even a Lego instruction leaflet! Reading is reading.

✅Choose a book that is of their reading level and ability. Anything too challenging, maybe the reason your child may be reluctant to read which can cause them to lose confidence when they're way out of their depth.

✅Make reading fun – read together in crazy silly voices. Children of all ages enjoy their parents reading with them.

✅For real reluctant readers, keep it short. Start with just 1 page. Or a website. Anything to engage. Find their interest and use it to foster a love of reading.

✅Lead by example. Read more yourself. If your child doesn't see you or anybody else enjoying a good read, then the chances are they will opt out too.

✅Have a cooking day. Ask your child to read the ingredient list, gather the necessary food items then, read and follow the recipe.

✅Ensure your child has access to books. As well as the local library, look into book subscriptions.

Here’s some of my favourite books, give one or all of them a go!

▪To Kill a Mockingbird – Harper Lee

▪Animal Farm & 1984 – George Orwell

▪The Faraway Tree – Enid Blyton

▪Ugly - Constance Briscoe (adults only)

▪Awkward to Awesome – Mia Fizz

▪Royal Rebel – Carina Axelsson

12 hilarious ways students have avoided remote learning 27/02/2023

▪EXCUSES, EXCUSES!!!!
🤦‍♀️Over the years, I've heard every excuse in the book I can tell you!

Now with virtual and remote learning, students can no longer blag it or protest to have left work at home by mistake! The alibi now has to be that one step up. Have a read of these, some really 'creative thinkers here'!!!

This is a great piece and it was lovely chatting with the reporter, he was very sensitive. A lot of people don’t know my personal story, only the business one. So glad to be able to represent both the disabled, carers, neurodiverse and single parents.

This is a great win for us all as it gets our message out there and hopefully gives us a greater reach to support those unheard communities.

I’m not one for the spotlight, but I’m fast realising that putting myself out there is of potential benefit to us all in the end.

What a way to bring this year to a close.

✨️MEET THE TUTOR BOSS TEAM
- DIVYA PATEL

Divya is part of our Primary Team and specialises in teaching both English and Maths at GCSE too! A graduate of both the University of Birmingham and BCU, Divya is an experienced teacher of over 5 years. Her kind and caring nature, together with patience and persistence, are a perfect combination of skills for our younger learners as well as our secondary students.

Divya says, ‘I use a student-led approach, understanding the need for flexibility. It’s important for students to have the freedom and responsibility to direct their own learning, especially once they are studying for their GCSEs. I find that this empowers them to identify their own areas for development, and builds confidence in themselves and in their subjects. I employ a wide variety of resources, including CGP, BBC Bitesize, and my very favourite resource in the whole world - Mathsbot!!! My favourite part of tutoring are those a-ha! moments when ideas and skills slot into place. Even better are when I hear students say, I KNEW I could do that’.

‘Building a relationship and motivation are the keys to successful tutoring; I find some students work best if there’s a quiz at the end, while others like a quickfire problem-solving challenge like the Maths Countdown task. Whatever helps each student leave the session feeling happy and confident in their abilities’.

📝🖍📚REVISION TECHNIQUES - MAPPING
You don’t have to be ‘arty’ to make this technique work for you.

A big part of our teaching is revision techniques. There are plenty of ways & means - it's just about searching out the one that best suits the pupil.

We often encourage 'Journey/Mind Mapping'. These awesome examples are by one of our Yr11 students and perfectly illustrate how this method can help the brain retain information!!!

Using a system of detailed or simple diagrams or doodles, plus colour coding, can make revision notes come to life and in turn makes them become much more memorable.

Students can use coloured pens/highlighters to depict important dates, characters and quotes. For larger more complex topics, breaking down the information into a family tree-style map with branches of detail, can really help to form some kind of order to these BIG chunks of information - styling it up with a bit of design and colour can really help to prompt the memory and retrieve the data.

For visual learners, this is definitely one to give a go👌
