Brighter Horizons Training and Development We are an independent training provider based in West Sussex specialising in delivering high quality training to the Early Years and Adult Care sector.

Our philosophy is to offer excellent training and help learners to translate theory into practice. Apprenticeships are 95% funded by the government and are a great way of training new and unqualified staff in your setting as well as an excellent retention tool and career path for existing team members.

This week we've talked about what dyslexia is, challenged some common myths and shared practical ways to make learning and work more accessible.

But awareness is only the beginning.

True inclusion means creating spaces where learners and apprentices feel comfortable saying:
🗣️ “I learn differently.”
💬 “Can you explain that another way?”
🎧 “Can I access this information in a different format?”
⏱️ “I need a little more time to process this.”

And where the response is:
“Of course. Let's work out what you need.”
Because inclusive learning isn't about lowering expectations.

It's about removing barriers and giving people the opportunity to meet their potential.

Starting an apprenticeship or entering a new workplace can be exciting — but it can also bring new challenges.

For someone with dyslexia, things like lengthy written instructions, lots of information at once or unexpected changes can sometimes require extra effort.
But the right environment can make a huge difference.

💡 Clear instructions
🎧 Alternative ways to access information
📝 Extra time where appropriate
💻 Assistive technology
🗣️ Open conversations about individual needs

These aren't about giving someone an unfair advantage.
They're about removing unnecessary barriers so everyone has the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do.

If you're an apprentice with dyslexia, remember: you don't have to hide your needs to prove your ability.

And if you're a colleague, tutor or manager:
Ask. Listen. Adapt.

Businesses can access government-funded apprenticeship training for eligible apprentices aged 16–24, subject to funding rules and the apprenticeship funding band.

This week, we’re shining a light on dyslexia — and what it can mean in learning, work and everyday life.

Dyslexia is a difference in the way someone processes information. It can affect reading, writing, spelling, memory and organisation, but it doesn’t mean someone is less capable or less intelligent.

In fact, many people with dyslexia identify strengths such as:
💡 Creative thinking
🔎 Seeing the bigger picture
🧩 Problem-solving
🗣️ Strong verbal communication
🚀 Thinking differently and finding new approaches

For our learners and apprentices, the most important thing to remember is this:
There is no single “dyslexic learner”. Everyone learns differently.

If you have dyslexia, or think you might, you’re not alone — and support is available. 💙
