The Primary students have continued to work hard in their daily motor learning programmes. Every day, we see children working hard, overcoming challenges, and surprising themselves with what they're capable of. Through active participation, encouragement, and determination, they learn skills that build confidence, independence, and self-belief.

The Squirrels group have been working hard with their plinth programme in motor learning. Plinths are used because they provide the stability, positioning, and structure needed for learners to practise movements repeatedly and successfully, helping them develop the skills required for greater independence. They have been working on sitting up to the side of the plinth, which they can then use at home to sit up in bed.

The Owls group have been working in their motor learning session to prepare to actively sit up, either at the end of the bench/plinth or on the floor. They have been working on tasks such as bending both legs and bringing their chin to their chest in a supine lying position. Preparation tasks in Conductive Education are important because they establish the foundations needed for effective learning, purposeful movement, and increasing independence. They help learners become ready, capable, and confident in tackling more challenging activities and everyday tasks.

Students from year 10 had another fantastic day out at stone farm rocks last week. Hanging out in trees, climbing through ancient caves and scrambling over the sandstone rock formations. The students continue to challenge themselves even when they are feeling nervous. I think we will have one more session of scrambling before moving on to using ropes and using their indoor climbing skills outside on real rock.

A post from our Outdoor Education Lead;

This week the sun was back out and year 10 were my friends again.☀️

We were able to push our rock scrambling a little further this week working on technique and gaining a bit more height. It's great to see them continuing to implement the fundamental things they have learnt this year, spotting each other, encouraging, offering advice and support, leadership, and communication. All without me prompting, showing that this is now an inherent part of their skill set. We always have a laugh, and they always make me proud. Not many weeks left and this EPIC year will be over, next week is set to be a schorcher so perhaps exploring the cave may be on the cards??
