The Weald School & Sixth Form College is delighted to announce that our students are celebrating strong results again this week, as they receive the outcomes of their GCSEs and NVQs. Most impressive is that the year group achieved an average grade of just above a 5 (i.e. a strong pass). In addition, three quarters of students attained a grade 4 or above in English and Maths combined.

We at The Weald want to celebrate all of our students as we are exceedingly aware of not just the challenges provided by GCSEs, but also each student's own personal circumstances which surround the exams they have taken. No journey to exam results day is easy, and every experience is unique. This is why, as always, we are tremendously proud of the perseverance shown by each and every one of our students.

Special mention must go to Charlie McGeorge and Harry Fraher who attained 7 grade 9s and 3 grade 8s, and to Bryn Gibby who achieved 6 grade 9s. In addition, 23 students attained an average of grade 8 and above across their subjects. In terms of their starting points, the following students far exceeded expectations to achieve excellent outcomes: Nate Robinson, Cordelia Rhodes, Alice High, Theo Hale, Poppy Hadden and Alex Nicholson.

We would like to congratulate all of our students receiving exam results this week and we are extremely proud of the young people they have become. We look forward to seeing the vast majority of them back with us in our Sixth Form in September, following our students’ excellent A-level results last week, and wish every one of them well, whatever their future.

The Weald School & Sixth Form College is delighted to announce another enormously successful year for our students who took A-level and NVQ exams earlier this summer.

Top grades are in line with our best ever results, with a slight increase in those at the highest end: 11% of grades are A*s, 37% are A*/As and 66% are A*-B grades. These outcomes place us, yet again, well above the national average of 28.7% A*/A grades.

We at The Weald want to celebrate all of our students as we are exceedingly aware of not just the challenges provided by A-levels, but also each student's own personal circumstances which surround the exams they have taken. No journey to exam results day is easy, and every experience is unique. This is why, as always, we are tremendously proud of the perseverance shown by each and every one of our students.

We would particularly like to recognise Rebecca Shepherd (AAA), Lilly Palmer (AAC) and Mannie Canham (Double Distinction in an NVQ).

At The Weald, we promote the value of hard work. The following students (amongst others) achieved grades much higher than their GCSE forecasts would have suggested: Olivia Henson, Alex Jenn, Harry Johnston, Merry Lewis, Oliver Marshall, Dexter McCullen, Sophie Roser, and Emily Terry.

In fact, early indications show that, overall, our students’ results place us in the top 25% nationally in terms of progress from starting points. Of the highest attaining students, of particular note are: Lauren Cooper (A*A*A*A) who takes up a place at Cambridge to study Mathematics, Harry Johnston (A*A*A) who goes on to study Computer Science at Warwick, Merry Lewis (A*A*A) who goes to Exeter to study Economics and Politics, Emily Olliver (Double Distinction Star and A) who takes up a job at Gordonstoun School in Scotland as Watch Leader on their yacht, Olivia Starbuck (A*A*A) who will go on to Politics and International Relations with study abroad and Emily Terry (A*A*A).

A further 7 students have attained A*AA (Emily Bates, Thomas Fraher, Phillipa Sheasby, Alexa Spicer, Tom Stonnard, William Taylor and Jack Thomas) who will join high achieving universities this autumn to continue their academic studies.

Our vocational results have remained consistently very strong this year, too, and we are delighted that Mannie Canham and Emily Olliver have secured Double Distinction Stars in their industry-ready qualifications while Ben Hill secured a fantastic Distinction Star-Distinction.

Kenya Update – A New Adventure Begins! 🦁🇰🇪

Today we said goodbye to Karibuni and set off for the Merica Hotel, which will be our home for the next two nights.

The journey took a little longer than expected (7.5 hours instead of 4.5 hours!) due to traffic jams, but everyone arrived safely and in great spirits. After checking in, the students were delighted to settle into their lovely rooms and make the most of the hotel's swimming pool – a well-earned chance to relax after an incredible couple of weeks.

With an exciting day ahead, we'll all be having an early night tonight as alarms are set for a 4:00am wake-up call. Tomorrow is safari day, and everyone is looking forward to the chance to see Kenya's amazing wildlife in its natural habitat.

The excitement is definitely building, and we can't wait to share tomorrow's adventures with you. Fingers crossed for lots of animal sightings! 🦒🐘🦁

Kenya Update – Our Final Day 🇰🇪❤️

Yesterday marked our final day at our partner schools, and it was certainly an emotional one. The students spent the morning putting the finishing touches to the murals, bringing colour and personality to the classrooms before it was time to say our goodbyes.

In true Kenyan fashion, our farewell was marked with a wonderful goodbye ceremony. We were welcomed with music, dancing and heartfelt speeches, celebrating everything that had been achieved together over the past two weeks. As a special thank you, every member of the team was presented with a beautiful Shuka robe – a thoughtful gift that will always remind us of the friendships we've made and the incredible hospitality we've experienced throughout our time in Kenya.

Returning to Karibuni, we enjoyed one final favourite meal together – delicious fajitas – before rounding off the evening with a game of Taskmaster. It was the perfect way to end the trip, with plenty of laughter, creativity and friendly competition.

Before bed, we gathered together one last time to share our reflections on the journey. Listening to the students talk about the memories they've made, the lessons they've learned and the friendships they've formed was a wonderful reminder of just how special this experience has been.

Today we began our journey home, taking with us not only souvenirs and photographs, but memories, friendships and life lessons that will stay with us forever.

Kenya Update – The Penultimate Day 🇰🇪🎨

Yestetday was our second to last day on the building sites, and there was a real sense of excitement as the finishing touches came together. Painting continued at both schools, and it was fantastic to see the classrooms really starting to look complete. After all the hard work over the past couple of weeks, it's incredibly rewarding to stand back and see what has been achieved.

It's hard to believe that today will be our final day in Kitale before we begin our journey home. The time has flown by, and the memories, friendships and experiences made here will stay with us for a lifetime.

Back at Karibuni, we enjoyed another delicious traditional Kenyan meal together before spending the evening packing our bags and getting organised for our final day at Sirende and Karinguni schools.

We're incredibly proud of everything our students have accomplished. They have worked tirelessly, embraced every opportunity and represented themselves, their families and the school with kindness, enthusiasm and maturity. One more special evening at the Karibuni to enjoy before we begin our journey home.

Kenya Update – Celebrating Lasting Impact 🇰🇪🎉

Wednesday was a truly special day as we attended the official opening ceremonies for two classrooms built by last year's teams.

Our first stop was Namanjalala School, where it was wonderful to see the completed classroom now being used by the students. Seeing the lasting impact these projects have on the local community was incredibly rewarding and reminded us why these trips are so meaningful.

We then travelled to Masaba School for Intellectually Different Students, where another classroom built last year was officially opened. This visit was especially significant as it was the school where Andrew worked during last year's trip. It was fantastic to see the finished classroom standing proudly and making such a positive difference to the children who now learn there every day.

Both ceremonies were filled with music, dancing, speeches and celebrations, giving our students the opportunity to experience the incredible warmth and gratitude of the local communities. It was a day full of pride, reflection and inspiration as we saw first-hand the legacy left by previous teams.

Back at Karibuni, the fun continued with this evening's entertainment – Heardle! The students threw themselves into the challenges with plenty of enthusiasm, teamwork and laughter, making for another brilliant evening together.

Yesterday was a powerful reminder that the work completed on these trips creates a lasting legacy, benefiting generations of students to come. We are so proud of how our students continue to embrace every opportunity and look forward to seeing the difference this year's projects will make in the years ahead.

TUESDAY -

Kenya Update – Stepping Outside Our Comfort Zones 🇰🇪🎤🎂

Yesterday was another fantastic day at our build sites, with both teams enjoying new experiences alongside their building work.

The Kiungani team visited a nearby secondary school, where they were immediately thrown in at the deep end! Before they knew it, they were standing in front of the entire school to introduce themselves. Despite the surprise, every one of our students rose to the challenge and confidently introduced themselves in the local language – an achievement they should all be incredibly proud of.

Meanwhile, the Sirende team visited a nearby primary school, giving them the opportunity to spend time with younger pupils. It was a lovely change of pace, with plenty of games, conversations and smiles shared throughout the visit.

Back at both building sites, painting officially began, and our students thoroughly enjoyed seeing the classrooms really start to come to life. It's exciting to see the projects nearing completion and to witness the difference everyone's hard work is making.

After returning to Karibuni, we couldn't resist a cheeky trip out for some much-loved masala and garlic fries before heading back for dinner.

We also had the pleasure of celebrating a very special birthday today! There was plenty of singing, cake and smiles as everyone came together to make sure it was a birthday to remember, even so far from home.

The evening's entertainment was a karaoke night, which was full of laughter, enthusiastic performances and a few surprise stars... although we're afraid there are no photos or videos to share this time – we'll spare everyone the embarrassment! 🎤😂

Another day full of new experiences, growing confidence and unforgettable memories. Our students continue to impress us with their willingness to embrace every opportunity and represent themselves, their families and the school so brilliantly.
