📚 GCSE ENGLISH TUITION – LIMITED AVAILABILITY

I’ve had a rare space become available in my tutoring timetable, so I’m opening up a couple of slots.

I’m an experienced English teacher and AQA GCSE examiner, offering friendly, focused 1:1 tuition tailored to each student’s needs and the requirements of their exam board.

Current availability:

📍 Thursday evening – 1:1 tuition
Suitable for a Year 10 or Year 11 student.

💻 Monday 6:45pm – online, fortnightly
This would be particularly suited to a Year 10 student who would benefit from some extra support alongside school without committing to weekly tuition at this stage. There would be the option to move to weekly sessions later in the academic year as GCSEs get closer.

Sessions can focus on:
• English Literature texts and key themes
• English Language skills
• Exam technique and question structure
• Developing analytical writing
• Building confidence and improving grades

I currently tutor students across AQA and Eduqas and all sessions are planned specifically around the individual student.

What a lovely GCSE results day. ❤️🎉

I’ve now heard from all of my Year 11 students and I couldn’t be more pleased for them.

They have achieved some fantastic grades — 7s, 8s, passes secured and some incredible progress from mock results, with students improving by an average of more than a grade and a half.

But the numbers only tell a tiny part of the story.

I’ve spent the last year working with such a genuinely lovely group of young people. We’ve worked hard, laughed a lot, battled our way through Shakespeare, Dickens, Priestley and more poetry than any teenager should reasonably have to endure (and I’m sure they’ll be binning their anthologies if they haven’t already!)

I’ve watched confidence grow, seen things suddenly click and, most importantly, got to know some brilliant young people along the way.

GCSE grades don’t define any of them. They don’t measure kindness, humour, resilience, character or all the other things that will matter far beyond an exam hall.

But what these grades do give them is choice — and I’m so pleased that their hard work has given them options as they take their next steps.

Today belongs entirely to them. I hope they’re incredibly proud of themselves, because I certainly am.

And students, if you see this, make sure you thank your parents. They have supported you, nagged you and have been your biggest cheerleaders - give them a hug at some point today!

Congratulations, Class of 2026. You did it. ❤️🎓

As my students are about to sit their final English GCSE of 2026, I want to say a huge well done to them all.

It has been a pleasure to work with each and every one of them and a real privilege to see their confidence grow with each session.

A huge thank you to the parents. Teenagers won’t see it for a few years yet 🙄 😂 but they are lucky to have you and your unwavering support.

You also made me feel very welcome & supported, so thank you. And for your kind cards and gifts too - you really didn’t need to, but please know they are massively appreciated.❤️

I’m so incredibly proud of all my students. They have shown resilience, dedication and tremendous efforts in their revision leading up to their exams but it’s coming up to half term now, and time for a well deserved relax.

Enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the Boro match for those of you going/watching and I’ll see you after half term for the final run-in. ❤️

Final reminders tonight:

✅ Don’t try to learn everything now — focus on key quotes and clear ideas
✅ Read the question carefully and stay focused on the wording
✅ Zoom in on methods: language, structure, form
✅ Don’t forget to include contextual knowledge, where appropriate (AQA: AIC & Anthology Poetry; EDUQAS: ACC only)
✅ Embed short quotations naturally
✅ For poetry, compare throughout rather than writing about poems separately
✅ In unseen, remember there are NO “hidden” meanings — just explore what the writer suggests and HOW they do it

Most importantly:
You already know more than you think you do. Confidence and clear exam technique can make a huge difference tomorrow.

Had a fantastic weekend of revising with some amazing Year 11 students ahead of their first Literature exam tomorrow.

With English Literature Paper 1 just one week away, this is where things start to feel very real.

One thing I’m reminding all students this week:
👉 Know the structure of your paper — it reduces stress instantly.

✏️ EDUQAS students:

📖 Shakespeare
• Extract question
• Then whole play

📖 Poetry Anthology
• Analyse one named poem
• Then compare to another poem from the anthology

✏️ AQA students:

📖 Shakespeare
• One question: extract + whole play

📖 19th Century Novel (e.g. A Christmas Carol / Jekyll and Hyde)
• One question: extract + whole text

💡 What this means for revision this week:

✔️ Practise reading and annotating extracts quickly
✔️ Have 5–6 flexible quotes per text ready to use
✔️ Plan answers in clear, simple paragraphs
✔️ For poetry (Eduqas): practise comparing ideas, not just spotting techniques
✔️ For Eduqas poetry, AQA Shakespeare and AQA 19th Century Novel, you also need to understand how context helps to shape meaning and understanding of the texts

At this stage, success isn’t about learning more content; it’s about walking into the exam knowing:

• I understand how the paper works
• I know how to approach each question
• I can structure my answers clearly

That’s exactly what we focus on in these final sessions:

👉 practising exam-style responses
👉 building confidence under timed conditions

With exams just around the corner, a lot of students are asking: “What should I actually be doing each night?”

Here’s a simple 3-step English revision plan that works 👇

🟢 Step 1: Recall (10 mins)
• Learn 2–3 key quotes
• Test yourself (don’t just read them). If you have them on flash cards, cover them over. Or, rope a parent or friend in to help you.

🟡 Step 2: Apply (20 mins)
• Answer a short exam-style question, maybe just the introduction and first paragraph
• Focus on structure and using evidence

🔵 Step 3: Improve (10–15 mins)
• Check against a model answer (plenty available online on websites such as Save My Exams and Revision World)
• Add in anything you missed
• Rewrite one paragraph to improve it

That’s it.
No hours of revision. No overwhelm.
Just clear, focused practice that actually builds marks.

In these final weeks, it’s not about doing more…it’s about doing the right things.
