The few weeks after the clock change is often one of the worst for road collisions in the year. With the clocks going back this weekend, here are RED’s top tips on how to drive safely in the dark! πŸš—πŸŒ›

πŸŒƒ Keep your windows clean. Dirty windows can worsen the glare from oncoming traffic and make visibility poor.
πŸŒƒ Make sure that you have proper lighting. Before setting off, check that your headlights are properly cleaned and aligned.
πŸŒƒ Stay alert and drive slower to allow yourself more reaction time as hazards are harder to notice in the dark

Road Safety Week has started this week.

Our new research has found that newly qualified drivers account for almost a fifth (17%) of those who have lost their licence by accruing too many penalty points.

Road safety is a priority for us at RED and we are committed to preparing our students with the best learning experience to ensure that they are driving safely and feel confident getting on the road as new drivers.

New data has found that the number of winter breakdowns has gone up 22 percent in just four years. What should you do if your car breaks down?

Here are RED’s top tips:
πŸš— If possible, pull over to a safe location far away from traffic and use your hazard lights so that drivers around you are aware of your situation
πŸš— Contact emergency services or roadside assistant immediately
πŸš— Keep emergency supplies in your car such as flashlights, blankets, extra layers, a first aid kit, and snacks. If its cold you can then layer up whilst waiting assistance
