A book can become so much more than a book 📚🍂

One of my favourite things to do after discovering a new story is create a little play invitation around it & this Hide & Find in the Forest setup was just too lovely not to share. 🌳🦌🍄

I’ve used the story as inspiration for a little woodland world, with animals, loose parts & autumnal treasures ready for Bodhi to explore.

And THIS is exactly why I love our Little Oaks Library | Children’s Book Subscription | 0-6 Years subscription. You get beautiful, thoughtfully chosen children’s books delivered to your door, so you’re constantly getting new stories to discover without having to endlessly trawl bookshops trying to work out what your toddler might actually enjoy.

For me, it takes away the ‘what shall we read next?’ question & gives us fresh inspiration for our bookshelves, our play & even our seasonal activities. 🍁

If you’re a mum who loves books but feels like your toddler has read the same 5 books approximately 847 times… 😂 this is your sign to subscribe.

Animal tower for Bodhi to discover & play with this morning. 🦊🦉🐿️🌈🍂

A whole woodland of little friends stacked up on our Grimm’s rainbow: a mix of GRIMM‘S Wooden Toys, , & 🤎

I think this might be one of my favourite little displays yet 🥹✨

A little delivery day treat 📦🍂✨

The Gruffalo Granny book arrived first, then we had parcels from Babipur & Myriad 🤎

Inside: the most beautiful wooden woodland animals from Ostheimer & Holztiger 🦌🦊🐻🌲 I’m already picturing all the autumnal small world play we can create with these!

Because apparently I can’t just receive one parcel without immediately needing to make a whole play set-up around it 😂

Inspired by Atlas’s Play Corner ✨🌈’s post yesterday, a little builders yard set up for Bodhi to play with this morning.👷🏻‍♂️

We used what we already had to create a simple invitation to play: trucks, wooden blocks, loose parts & plenty of opportunities for Bodhi to decide what was being built.

🍂 Whimsical autumn books for toddlers 🍂

Following on from my previous book series, here are 9 of my favourite whimsical toddler books for autumn 🤎🍁

As an ex early years teacher & toddler mum with 200+ children’s books, I’m always looking for books that feel a little bit magical, spark curiosity & invite children to slow down & notice the world around them.

📚 Hide & Find in the Forest
🌳 The Oak Tree
🍂 Paper Chase
🍁 Oak, The Littlest Leaf Girl
☕ The Café at the Edge of the Woods
☀️ The Sun Thief
🌰 Ava & the Acorn
🐻 Home
🧚 Backyard Fairies

Save this for your next autumn bookshop trip 🍂📚
As always, books will be linked on my Amazon SF & in my stories. If you’d like to subscribe to Little Oaks Library | Children’s Book Subscription | 0-6 Years this month then use my code LAUREN10 for 10% off.

A little play tray inspired by The Great Nut Hunt - one of our Little Oaks Library | Children’s Book Subscription | 0-6 Years collection books this month.🐿️🍂

We had to improvise the characters because apparently we don’t own a single toy squirrel 😂 One has now been ordered, naturally!

I used our Grapat mandala pieces as the ‘nuts’ for Bodhi to hunt for, & he absolutely loved hiding them under the out-of-date cornflakes & pasta I found lurking at the back of the cupboard 😂

It’s funny how the simplest setups can create the best play. A little imagination, a favourite story & some things you already have at home is sometimes all you need. 🤎
