S6 tutoring receive excellent recommendations and client reviews and has continued to attract new clients due to the commitment of the team and the continued success rate in students passing and obtaining a place at their first choice of grammar school (based on students adhering to our work plans). 🎒 As the summer holidays come to an end, here’s how to ace your first day at a new school!

Whether your child is starting secondary school, moving to a new school or simply heading into a new year group, those first-day nerves are completely normal.

A few simple things can make the morning feel much easier:

🎒 Pack the night before: less rushing, less stress and no last-minute hunt for the missing PE kit!

⏰ Arrive a little early: having time to find where you need to be can make everything feel much calmer.

👋🏼 Be friendly and open: remember, plenty of other students will be feeling nervous too. A simple smile or hello could make someone else’s day as well as yours.

And most importantly, don’t put pressure on yourself to have everything figured out on day one. New classrooms, new teachers, new routines and new faces all take a little time to get used to.

When “I don’t want to go to school” might actually mean “I’m struggling at school.”

School reluctance isn’t always about not wanting to learn.

Sometimes, there’s something sitting underneath it.

📚 “Everyone else understands it except me.”
😟 “I’m worried I’ll get the answer wrong.”
📝 “I’ve fallen behind and I don’t know how to catch up.”
💭 “I don’t feel confident in that lesson.”

When a child is finding their schoolwork difficult, avoiding school can sometimes feel easier than facing the thing that’s making them anxious.

That’s why it can be helpful to look beyond “Why don’t you want to go?” and ask:

“Is there anything at school that feels particularly difficult at the moment?”

⭐ Sometimes, the right support can completely change how a child sees what they’re capable of.

The Sunday night feeling… but for the rest of August. 😬

For some children, the thought of going back to school is already starting to creep in.

A new year group. A new school. Harder work. A subject they struggled with last year. Or simply that niggling feeling that everyone else is ahead of them.

If your child is feeling nervous about September, there are a few things you can start doing now:

✨ Get back into a gentle routine before the first day
✨ Talk about what they’re worried about without immediately trying to “fix” it
✨ Refresh a little of last year’s learning to rebuild confidence
✨ Break September down into small steps rather than talking about the whole year
✨ Remind them that they don’t need to have everything figured out on day one

GCSE results didn’t go to plan? You still have options. 💛

Results day can bring a huge mix of emotions, and not everyone will open that envelope and see the grades they were hoping for.

If that’s your child later this morning, try not to panic.

There are still routes forward, including resits, alternative courses and speaking to their school or college about the options available to them.

And if English, Maths or another subject needs another attempt, the next few months can be used to identify the gaps, rebuild confidence and prepare properly for a resit.

Try introducing a few things over the next couple of weeks:

📅 Practise reading and following a timetable
🎒 Encourage them to organise and pack their own school bag
📚 Build in a little reading each day
💬 Talk openly about what secondary school might be like
