It was a rainy evening in 2025 when Peter, a CPR trainer and East Midlands Ambulance Service volunteer, headed to the cinema with his wife.

But shortly after arriving, he collapsed. It was a sudden cardiac arrest.

His wife immediately shouted for help, phoned 999, and started CPR. With the help of other bystanders, emergency services, and three shocks from a defibrillator, Peter's heart was restarted.

Restart a Heart Day takes place on Friday 16 October. This global day raises awareness of cardiac arrest and the lifesaving difference CPR and defibrillators can make. Here are four things we can all do to help give someone the best chance of survival:

1) Learn CPR and how to use a defibrillator. Anyone can learn with our free online training tool, RevivR. It only takes 15 minutes, and one day those skills could help save a life. https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life/how-to-do-cpr/learn-cpr-in-15-minutes

2) In an emergency, every second counts. Knowing where to find your nearest defibrillator could save precious time and help save a life. Find yours here: https://www.defibfinder.uk/

3) Register your defibrillator on The Circuit. If there's a defibrillator in your workplace, community venue or organisation, make sure it's registered on The Circuit so ambulance services know where to find it when it's needed most. https://www.thecircuit.uk/

Empowering kids today, saving lives tomorrow!

866 children trained in life saving first aid skills over the last 4 days!
From reception to year 6 all of the children have had the opportunity to get involved with our hands on First Aid sessions.
I’ve been running these sessions at Buttsbury Primary for the past 7 years - the children are always enthusiastic, engaged and delight me with the knowledge they remember from previous years!
