Support can start before a formal diagnosis. 💙

If your child is finding reading, writing or other learning tasks difficult, there are small things you can try while you’re figuring out what’s going on.

Extra processing time, audiobooks, breaking tasks into smaller steps or reducing the amount of information presented at once can all help make learning more accessible.

The aim isn’t to wait for a label before offering support. It’s to notice what your child needs and respond to it. 🌱

An assessment can give you a clearer picture of how your child learns. 💙

Understanding their learning profile can help parents and teachers make more informed decisions about the support, strategies and adjustments that may help them thrive.

It’s not just about identifying difficulties. It’s about understanding the individual behind them, recognising their strengths and working out what can help them learn with greater confidence.

Not everyone takes information in the same way. 🧠

For some people with dyslexia, combining different ways of learning can make information easier to understand and remember.

Try reading something aloud, listening to it, talking it through or using something visual. Sometimes finding the right method can make learning feel much more manageable. 💙

The important thing is finding what works for you.

You don’t have to learn in exactly the same way as everyone else. 💙

For many people with dyslexia, finding the right way to learn can make a real difference.

Sometimes that means more time.
Sometimes it means different strategies.
Sometimes it means finding what works with your strengths rather than constantly focusing on what feels difficult.

Your learning journey doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. 🌱

A dyslexia assessment can help you understand more than where your child may be struggling. 💙

It can also highlight their strengths, how they learn best, and the areas where the right support could make learning feel more manageable.

For parents, having a clearer picture of your child's learning profile can help you make more informed decisions about the support they may need at home and in school.

A dyslexia assessment looks beyond reading. 🧠

It can help build a clearer picture of how someone learns, processes information and approaches different tasks, while recognising both their strengths and the areas where they may need additional support.

For parents, having that understanding can make it easier to know what support may actually be helpful at home and in school.

Sometimes, rest is the most important thing we can give ourselves. 🌊

I’ve had to take a few days away from work recently because I realised I was getting really close to burnout. If I’d carried on pushing myself, I think my body and brain would eventually have made the decision for me.

As neurodivergent people, I don’t think we talk enough about how much energy everyday life can require.

And when you’re also parenting neurodivergent children, there can be another layer. So much of our energy can go into helping our children feel safe, supporting them through difficult moments and helping them regulate, sometimes without noticing how much energy we’re using ourselves.

So I’ve stopped.

I’ve been swimming in the sea. 🌊
I’ve listened to podcasts in bed.
I’ve spent time with people I love.
And sometimes I’ve literally just sat and looked out at the sea.

I’m beginning to realise that this isn’t doing nothing.

This is recovery.

Perhaps we need to become better at recognising when our brains and bodies are asking us to stop, before we reach the point where we have no choice.

I’d love to know: what does genuine rest and regulation look like for you or your neurodivergent family? 💛

Learning doesn't always have to happen through a page of text. 📖

Try mixing things up: break information into smaller sections, use clear headings, add bullet points, or give plenty of space between ideas.

For someone with dyslexia, reducing visual clutter can make information easier to navigate and process.

Sometimes, changing how information is presented can make learning feel much more manageable. 🧠

Sometimes a child can be trying incredibly hard, even when the results don't look that way. 💛

For children with dyslexia, reading and written work can require significantly more effort. Being told to “try harder” doesn't address why the task feels difficult in the first place.

Understanding how your child learns can help you respond with the right support, rather than more pressure.

Dyslexia is about how someone processes language and learning. It isn't a reflection of intelligence, effort, or potential. 🧠

If you're beginning to wonder whether dyslexia could be part of your child's learning profile, a dyslexia assessment can help provide a clearer understanding of their strengths and areas of difficulty.

Different ways of learning. The same potential. 💙

Today, on International Youth Day, we're celebrating young people with dyslexia and the many different ways they learn, think and experience education.

A different learning profile does not mean a smaller future.

With the right understanding, support and opportunities, young people can build confidence, recognise their strengths and move towards the things they want for themselves.

This year's theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” is a reminder that while every young person's experience is different, the desire to learn, belong, grow and succeed is something we all share.
