Yesterday evening I left my amazing animals at home to attend The Voice local hero awards ceremony with my beautiful wife where I was presented with the 2026 ‘Animal Welfare champion’ award! It was a real privilege to accept the award and extremely humbling to share the evening with some truly outstanding people who contribute so much to our community. I would like to thank the amazing team at Tarka Vets who sponsored my award, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you all. 😀🐍🦎🐢🪲🐸

Spread the word, all invertebrates are now welcome at the Really Wild Bug hotel at Affinity Devon Outlet Shopping. 🤣🐝🐞🐜🦗🦟🪰🦋🪲🕷️

🏆🐞 We’re proud to announce that Affinity Devon has won a Green Apple Award! 🍏🌿

Our Bug Hotel project, created in collaboration with Really Wild Planet, was recognised in the Environmental Best Practice – Environmental Improvement category. The project responds to the decline in UK insect populations by providing an inclusive, hands-on way for local communities and young people to engage with biodiversity and environmental stewardship.

A huge thank you to Kim Insull and his work experience team, along with students from St Mary’s Primary School and Petroc College who helped make this project such a success.

A fantastic achievement for everyone involved! 💚🐝

On this day 19 years ago I was sat in an airport watching the news that Steve Irwin had tragically died. To start with I was sure the news story was wrong but sadly not. This larger than life character with a love of all things wild inspired me to show others how amazing each and every creature on this planet is. This one man did a huge amount for animal PR and conservation including buying large areas of wildness and letting wildlife do its thing rather than hoping politicians will do the right thing. He showed me that to get future generations to care you have to get them interested by getting them up close, to really see, touch and hold animals, they will then they will make good choices and hopefully help to preserve biodiversity for future generation. 😀🐊🦎🐍🐸🐢
