🐣 *Easter*
Before the break we celebrated Easter with arts, crafts and chocolate 🍫!
Weaving and sewing 🧵
We used cotton and yarns to stitch around the Easter egg shape. Sewing and weaving helps us to develop our pre-writing skills, develops hand co-ordination and fine motor skills , it strengthens our grip and uses finger muscles- it’s also a great mindfulness activity.
👀Easter egg hunt
We worked together to find the hidden eggs, we used our problem solving skills to share them out equally
Chocolate and treats 🍫
We made chocolate baskets by melting the chocolate and mixing in cereals. We also baked yummy Easter cakes 🧁.
*Happy Easter*

Wonderful Worms 🪱
Last week we explored the wonder of 🪱 worms.
We learnt how helpful they are for the earth and how they create nutrients for the soil which help our vegetables to grow in the garden.
🧮 We measured worms
🎵 We sang there’s a worm at the bottom of the garden 🪴
🔍We went on worm hunts
🏠 We made a worm house
✋We carefully let them wiggle over our hands
This promotes how to “care for the world around us and other living things”

💫 The wonder of the Northern Lights 💫
We have been looking at and investigating the amazing Northern lights, also known as Aurora Borealis.
🧪 We learnt about how they are formed, how gases are released in the atmosphere, and the magical colours they create.
📕We read traditional stories and myths, and learnt how some people believe that the colours are formed by artic foxes 🦊 who ran soo fast their beautiful tails created the bright colours as they ran.
💡 We created our own Northern lights using the light projector 📽️ we also laid back looked up to the sky and watched how the clouds moved.
“Northern lights: the ultimate wanderlust fuel”.

Welcoming in 2025… with reflection, gratitude, and Winter Trees. ❄️ 💕
This week we welcomed the New Year, we reflected on last year, looking at photos from our Christmas party and talking about festive celebrations. This lead us to gratitude and being thankful, talking about what makes us happy and what things we can do to support our happiness and well-being in 2025.
We looked at how the New Year is celebrated around the world:
🇩🇰 Denmark smashing plates on neighbours door steps to bring good luck.
🇧🇷 Brazil eating lentils brings good fortune
🇺🇸 New york , dropping balls
🇪🇸 Spain eating twelve grapes 🍇
🇷🇴 Romania dressing up as bears for protection and healing ❤️🩹
🇯🇵 Japan 180 bells are rang
🇮🇹 Italy - we learnt a new number some about witches 🧙 who visit children on the 6th of January the epiphany leaving gifts in stocking.
As part of our Hygge wanderlust study we explored winter trees 🌲, learning about different types of trees such as evergreens and why some trees loose their leaves 🍃 to save energy during the winter months, just how we use energy running, climbing and exploring to keep warn whilst enjoying the glorious winter frosts outside.
We also welcomed some new friends who are settling in well. We can’t wait to see what 2025 brings. Happy New Year 🥳

Beautiful Badgers 🦡
Our Hygge studies took us on adventures exploring Badgers this week. We found that Badgers and their sets are protected by law.
🖼️ We looked at collections of photos of badgers, created our own badger paintings and even a life sized model.
🧮 We looked at badgers patterns the stripes on their fur some even have tiny spots.
🌍 We spoke about how badgers dig tunnels underground and worked as a team to try and dig tunnels in our digging area.
🗣️ We used new words such as:
nocturnal
burrow
sett
👣 We went searching for footprints, identifying the different prints we found unfortunately we didn’t find any badger prints at forest school, but we didn’t find prints left by the paws of foxes 🦊
🌦️As the weather changed this week we embraced the cooler air, wrapped up warm and went out to explored the changes. The first frosts and how leaves become frozen, we even enjoyed a very brief flurry of snow!
🚦Road Safety Week
Whilst out and about we learnt about traffic lights and road safety, we sang our crossing the road song to remind us how to safely cross the road.
We looked at different road signs and how to keep ourselves safe when in the car 🚗
We then took time to “fika” snuggling up and enjoy warm drinks. 🧤

🌍 🎶 World Nursery Rhyme Week 🎶🌍
Singing and songs are a core part of our day, the benefits are endless from supporting speech and language to helping the development of emotional regulation .
The Owls linked our hygge wanderlust study of “fire” to nursery rhyme week, with the traditional rhyme of “London’s Burning.”
🔥 We visited the fire station and meet some real firefighters. We spoke about what a fire needs to grow and how the oxygen and wood feed the fire. We also discussed how to stay safe around fire.
🐠 We really enjoyed the rhyme ‘1,2,3,4,5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive.’ This lead us to take a trip to Pet’s at Home to buy our own fish tank (we are looking forward to our new arrivals joining us soon.)
🌺 We celebrated World Kindness Day with acts of kindness, we showed compassion and spoke about gratitude for Remembrance Sunday. We visited the church memorials and made our own beautiful poppy pictures.
Finally, we raised funds for Children in Need as we dressed in bright clothing. We made spotty pudsey head bands and delicious spotty biscuits.
