Today is National Thank a Teacher Day but here at BPS we know that it takes a whole village to make our school the fabulous place it is so we extended our thanks to every single adult who helps us in school!

A massive thank you to our Wellbeing Squad who were in charge of The Trolley of Thanks which travelled around the school today. (Thank you to our Wellbeing Squad’s parents and carers too, who helped them to make the delicious cakes that they shared today!)

At break and lunchtime, the children wrote cards to the school staff they would like to say thank you to and we can’t wait to share those messages around the school!

We are delighted to announce that we are now an OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) School in Progress.

OPAL is a nationally recognised programme that helps schools improve the quality of play opportunities for children, supporting their wellbeing, creativity, social skills and enjoyment of school.

Over the coming months, you may notice changes to our outdoor spaces and playtimes as we develop exciting new opportunities for children to explore, create, imagine and learn through play. We look forward to working with our school community on this journey and will keep you updated on our progress.

Year 5 had a brilliant time taking part in a fun house hurdles competition! There was lots of energy, excitement and plenty of cheering as everyone gave it a go. To make it even more entertaining, we filmed our races in slow motion and watched them back afterwards… which led to lots of laughter!

Last week, Year 4 explored symmetry in Art! Using paints and mirrors, the children created a range of colourful symmetrical figures, carefully observing how one side reflected the other. They enjoyed experimenting with different shapes, patterns and colours to produce some fantastic artwork while developing their understanding of symmetry.

Year 5 had a very memorable history lesson this week as they became archaeologists and investigated Ancient Maya coprolites… Yes, that means fossilised poo (not real!).

By examining what was found inside, the children discovered clues about what the Maya people ate thousands of years ago. It was definitely a bit gross at times but also fascinating and full of learning! There were plenty of shocked faces and lots of laughter along the way – a lesson they won’t forget in a hurry!

Last week, as part of Global Parents and Carers Day, our Year 4 children took time to reflect on the important people in their lives by writing letters to their parents, carers and family members. In their letters, they explained why these special people are important to them and thanked them for all the support, care and encouragement they provide each day.

Across the rest of BPS, children also took part in a range of thoughtful activities designed to celebrate and recognise the incredible role that parents, carers and families play in their lives.

Key Stage Two had some special visitors in school today when the Mayor of Bewdley, Sharon Harvey, and Councillor Lyn Stanczyszyn popped in to talk to the children about why it’s important to walk to school whenever possible!
They also presented certificates to the winners of the Walk to School poster competition.
Congratulations to Alice in Rosen, Penny in Morpurgo and Lara in Blackman who will soon be seeing their posters up around the town!

We are very pleased to have taken part in UNICEF’s Global Day of Parents, which honours the vital roles parents and carers play in children’s lives.
We started the day by offering free tea, coffee and biscuits to our community and then shared an assembly with the children about how they can show their appreciation in a range of different ways.
Parents and carers can also look forward to a little tokens of thanks which will be coming home with the children tonight!

Today, we were delighted to welcome Toscana Strings into BPS for a fantastic musical performance! The children enjoyed listening to a wonderful range of string pieces, including Monkey Puzzle, Peter and the Wolf and Wind in the Willows. Throughout the performance, the children were fully engaged with the music and dance elements and loved having the opportunity to join in in a variety of different ways.

It was a brilliant experience that brought music to life and inspired lots of smiles, movement and enthusiasm across the school. A huge thank you to Toscana Strings for such an enjoyable and memorable visit!
