MEET THE TEAM 🖤 | KATIE

We thought it was about time we properly introduced some of the faces behind BDC… and first up is our lovely Katie, Head of Musical Theatre 🎭🖤

Katie has been dancing for as long as she can remember, competing for over 10 years before discovering her love for Musical Theatre.

She went on to train in Musical Theatre and Screen Acting in London for three years and since then has performed on P&O Cruises, worked alongside West End directors and appeared in productions for BBC, Apple TV and Paramount+.

Katie now brings all of that experience back into BDC, helping our Musical Theatre dancers develop their dancing, acting and performance skills… and most importantly, their confidence to actually get up there and perform. 🔥

We’re very lucky to have her heading up our Musical Theatre programme and sharing everything she’s learnt with the next generation of performers. 🖤

COME CHOREO WITH ME

A little behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating a class at BDC.

Choosing the music, experimenting with movement, changing the parts that don’t quite work and then bringing it all into the studio for the dancers to learn.

This was the process of creating last night’s choreography, followed by how it looked in class.

NEW TO BDC… MINI FAM JAM 🖤

Something completely new is coming to BDC this October and this one’s for our littlest dancers AND their grown ups! 🙌🏼

Mini Fam Jam is our brand new class for ages 18 months–3 years, giving little ones their first experience of dance, music and movement… BDC style. 🖤

And yes grown-ups… you’re joining in too 😀

We’ve had lots of new dancers joining us for September and some of our classes have grown, so we’ve made a few changes to our timetable too, giving us more options, better levelled classes and more room to progress. 🖤

BACK TO DANCE! 🖤🙌

Well… we’ve nearly made it through the summer holidays parents 😂🙌

And that means it’s almost time to get the dance bags back out because BDC is back THIS MONDAY! 🔥

I’m definitely ready to have the studios full again and I can’t wait to see everyone back dancing, as well as welcome all the lovely new faces joining us this September. ❤️

So this weekend’s job… find the dance bag, check the trainers still fit 🙈 and work out where you put all the BDC gear six weeks ago! 😂

Hear me out on this one… ❤️

We hear words like welcoming, inclusive, supportive, confidence and belonging a lot when we talk about children’s activities and I completely agree with all of them.

They matter. MASSIVELY .

However, I’ve been thinking about this lately and personally, I don’t think those things should be what makes a children’s activity stand out.

I think they should be the starting point.

As a parent myself, I’d expect my child to be welcomed, included, safe and supported wherever I chose to send them.

So for me, the question is… what do we offer beyond that?

At BDC, I want dancers to progress. I want them to be challenged as well as encouraged. I want them to learn proper foundations, understand the styles they’re learning and have teachers who recognise when they’re capable of more.

I want them to have opportunities, experiences and memories they’ll take with them long after they’ve left the studio.

And along the way? Absolutely, I want them to make friends, laugh, build confidence and feel like they belong here. ❤️

But I’ll always believe that part should come as standard.

We don’t just want children to attend BDC. We want them to grow here.

Obsession for Progression. 🖤
