My company Dyslexia Herts was established in 2011. We assess online wherever you are!

We provide a specialist dyslexia advice, support and assessment service for children young people and adults in Herts, Beds, Bucks and London. We provide advice and support to children, young people and adults with dyslexia and their families. We are able to offer assessments and a free online screening service. The start of a new academic year often brings a fresh perspective.

Perhaps your child has continued to find reading or spelling difficult, you've noticed they're becoming less confident in the classroom, or you're an adult who has always wondered why certain aspects of learning have felt more challenging.

Behind every assessment, training course and piece of advice we provide is a team of experienced specialist practitioners who are passionate about helping individuals with dyslexia and other specific learning differences.

Our team includes specialist tutors, assessors and trainers who are all current practitioners, bringing a wealth of experience from primary, secondary, further and higher education, as well as the workplace.

Over the coming months we'd like to introduce you to some of the people behind Dyslexia Herts.

Today we're introducing Jane our Specialist Assessor.

Jane spent over 20 years in primary education before specialising as a diagnostic dyslexia assessor. She is passionate about helping children feel relaxed and confident during assessments, while providing families and schools with practical recommendations that make a real difference.

Jane is a qualified teacher (BEd), holds a Master's degree in Education and a Postgraduate Certificate in SEND, and is a Level 7 qualified diagnostic dyslexia assessor with the Dyslexia Guild.

We're proud to have such an experienced team helping individuals, families, schools and workplaces better understand and support specific learning differences.

A new school year brings new opportunities, but it can also bring worries for children with dyslexia and other specific learning differences.

Preparing a little in advance can help make the transition smoother and build confidence before term begins.

Things to do:

✅️ Establish routines

Starting university is an exciting milestone, and with the right support in place, students with dyslexia and other specific learning differences can thrive.

Before term starts, it's worth finding out what support your university offers.

You may be able to access reasonable adjustments, specialist study support, assistive technology and Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), if you're eligible.

If you've already had a diagnostic assessment, contact your university's disability or inclusion team before your course begins so support can be arranged as early as possible.

Every family's journey is unique, but one thing we often hear is how valuable it is to finally have a better understanding of how their child learns.

Before the assessment, we'll gather background information to understand educational history and any concerns. The assessment usually lasts around three hours, with breaks where needed, and uses a range of activities to build a detailed picture of learning strengths and challenges.

Afterwards you'll receive a comprehensive written report and a feedback session to explain the findings and recommendations.

Assessments are available for children, young people and adults, with face-to-face and online options available where appropriate.

Meet Jane – Founder of Dyslexia Herts.

Dyslexia Herts was established in 2011 with one simple mission: to ensure individuals with dyslexia and other specific learning differences are empowered to achieve their goals in education and the workplace.

Having been part of a neurodivergent family, Jane combines personal insight with more than 35 years' experience in education and over 25 years supporting children, young people and adults with specific learning differences.

Today she leads a team of highly qualified specialist tutors, assessors and trainers who provide assessments, nationally recognised training and practical support & advice.

Throughout August we'll be sharing advice, information and resources to help parents, educators, employers and individuals better understand dyslexia and specific learning differences.
