We spent half term in Cornwall. On one of the days it was too cold, wet and windy to go to the beach so we headed out for a cold, wet and windy walk instead😂
We headed to Wheal Coates - a historic tin mine located on the cliffs near St. Agnes. It was so wet and windy!💨🤣
Over half term we helped our eldest son, who’s in Y8, revise for his end of year exams.
Within the KS3 membership, which covers the Year 7, 8 and 9 curriculum, there are all his subjects and topics. I think on this day he chose RS.
Beetle's recorded a 12 audio lesson revision series on Sikhism covering everything our son has to learn for his exam. All he needed to do was pop his headphones on, find the right subject and topic within the app and listen!
Without sounding too dramatic, our audio lessons have been absolutely game changing, life changing really, for our dyslexic son, who really doesn’t like reading.
Being able to listen to his lessons has allowed him to access all the information he needs to revise for these exams without the pressure of reading.
It’s meant that he’s been able to focus on understanding each topic and remembering it rather than struggling to decode the written words first.
We’ve also been able to revise with him in a way his brain wants to revise and at his own pace.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Although biased, highly recommend.

As Jamie Oliver understands, getting a diagnosis of dyslexia is transformational and will ensure that your child gets the support they deserve.

Dear Jamie,

Thank you for sharing your personal experience of dyslexia.

I saw your video on Instragram a few months ago and shared it. Very powerful. People need to see that being dyslexic doesn’t mean you can’t succeed. And you have definitely succeeded. I love the fact that you surround yourself with people who can do the things you can’t which then allows you to do the things you’re fantastic at.

I’ve now just read your article in The Times and had to write to you. When it said that you started crying, so did I.

Thank you. Keep being you and doing what you do.

I am around your age but not dyslexic. My daughter is dyslexic. In my twenties, I lived in London and loved your cook books because they were so accessible. I still have them and still use them.

I am a teacher and work with a lot of dyslexic children and know about their difficulties and try to support them. I have recently qualified as a dyslexia assessor and wanted to let you know that it has opened up to me a whole world of people who really care about helping children with dyslexia. It’s really heartening.

Like you, I live in a bonkers, neurodiverse family. Never a dull moment but it can also be exhausting. Being a child of the 70s, where no one really talked about these things, it’s really positive to hear that people like you are openly talking about dyslexia and neurodiversity.

So much more to say but you’re a busy man so I’m keeping it short. You have done great things and will continue to do great things. Dyslexic minds can be some of the most creative and innovative minds ever. Like yours. That’s what I tell my daughter and all the other dyslexics I meet and diagnose.

Sending love.

Lizzie

Really interesting article in TES about the ongoing debate about how we can get better at diagnosing and supporting pupils with dyslexia to improve their school experience. I agree with Snowling that the government could make it mandatory for all children who fail the phonics screening test to be given intervention.

Researchers have come up with a new definition of the learning difficulty, with implications for schools and policymakers. Tes reports from the launch event

This is so true. Dyslexia is very common and often runs in families.
