Record-breaking GCSE results at Berkhamsted! ๐ŸŽ‰

We are incredibly proud to celebrate an outstanding set of GCSE results from our Year 11 pupils at Berkhamsted Boys and Berkhamsted Girls.

This year, an exceptional 34% of all GCSE grades awarded were Grade 9 โ€“ the highest grade possible โ€“ while 56.5% of grades were awarded at Grades 9โ€“8, a 4.5% increase on last yearโ€™s impressive results.

These record-breaking achievements are a wonderful reflection of the determination, resilience and ambition our pupils have shown throughout their time at Berkhamsted, alongside the dedication and encouragement of our teaching staff.

At Berkhamsted, academic success is underpinned by far more than just examination preparation. Our commitment to character education for every child, developing the habits, attitudes and confidence to support excellence, benefit pupils both in the classroom and beyond. Through a wealth of leadership opportunities, co-curricular opportunities, sports and community engagement programmes, pupils are encouraged to discover and develop their individual strengths and passions.

We wish all our Year 11 pupils every success in the next stage of their journey, with many of them going on to study at Berkhamsted Sixth, based in the new and inspiring Zaha Hadid building.

A glimpse of Results Day, in the words of our Class of 2026 ๐ŸŽ“

After the anticipation came the relief, and the excitement of seeing all that hard work pay off.

For our students, reaching this point has been about more than the final results. Itโ€™s also been about the people who supported them, the confidence and character theyโ€™ve built, and the environment that helped them get where they wanted to go.

Sophie reflected on the integral role her tutors have played in supporting her throughout her journey, adding: โ€œI think that an environment like Berkhamsted is just unbelievable.โ€

Weโ€™re incredibly proud of the remarkable young people our students have become and are excited for the next stage of their journey beyond Berkhamsted. ๐Ÿ‘

Another remarkable year for Berkhamsted Sixth ๐ŸŽ“

We are delighted to celebrate an outstanding set of A Level results with our Class of 2026.

Nearly a quarter of entries were awarded A* (23%), 57.5% achieved A*-A and 83.4% achieved A*-B โ€“ an increase on our 2025 results and matching our highest results on record from 2020.

All seven successful Oxbridge candidates have secured their places, alongside many students heading to leading Russell Group universities including Warwick, Imperial and Edinburgh, as well as specialist destinations including the Royal Veterinary College and Norland College.

โ€œIโ€™m really happy- I canโ€™t quite believe it if Iโ€™m honest!,โ€ commented Emma, who is off to study Medicine, following a Gap Year. โ€œAll the hard work from me and my teachers has paid off!โ€

These results reflect not only the hard work and determination of our students and staff, but the academic culture, opportunities and sense of community that shape life at Berkhamsted Sixth.

โ€œI have loved being involved in CCF and Outdoor Ed.โ€ shared Gaby, who secured the grades she needed to study Combined Honours in Social Sciences at Durham University. โ€œItโ€™s really those opportunities that werenโ€™t part of the academic curriculum that shaped this school into what it isโ€. โ€œShe has really flourished,โ€ her mum agreed.

We are immensely proud of everything this cohort has achieved and excited to see what comes next. Congratulations, Class of 2026! ๐Ÿ‘

A celebration of cricketing excellence, past and present. ๐Ÿโœจ

In June, the Berkhamsted community came together to unveil our new Cricket Honours Boards, recognising every Berkhamstedian to have scored a century or taken a five-wicket haul in a School 1st XI match since 1880.

Featuring more than 400 names across both boys' and girls' cricket, the boards celebrate generations of outstanding achievement while leaving space for future players to make their mark.

It was wonderful to welcome so many Old Berkhamstedians back to School for the unveiling, held during a rare double home fixture for our girls' and boys' 1st XI teams. Families, former pupils and current students gathered to celebrate a shared love of the game, with stories and memories spanning decades.

One particularly special moment saw Year 13 Bea standing alongside her father on the honours boards, reminding us of the lasting connections that Berkhamsted cricket continues to create across generations.

A huge thank you to our Old Berkhamstedian community for generously supporting this project, and to Mr Caidan, who meticulously went through every School fixture since 1880. The boards now take pride of place in the David Case Pavilion, preserving Berkhamsted's rich cricketing history for years to come. ๐Ÿ’™
