We had some very special guests at nursery this week, ZooLab came to visit us!
The children were thrilled to meet a variety of amazing animals and learn more about them.
The highlight of the visit was when the children were invited to gently touch the animals. There were lots of brave hands and big smiles as the children carefully felt the different textures some were smooth, some were scaly, and some were a little wriggly! The children showed fantastic listening skills and were very gentle with our animal guests.

Happy new year!
We would love to welcome all our children back to nursery after the Christmas break.
At nursery, we are introducing a gentle, positive behaviour idea to encourage listening, sharing, kindness, and teamwork.
Two friendly nursery fairies pop and Flora have payed the children a special visit this week.
The fairies help the children notice and celebrate kind choices, such as:
* Listening to adults and friends
* Sharing toys and taking turns
* Being kind and helpful
* Working together and supporting each other
When the children show these behaviours, they earn stars that go into a shared star jar. This focuses on teamwork rather than individual rewards, helping children learn that their actions contribute to the whole group.
When the star jar is full the children will place the jar at the fairies door, the fairies will then leave the children an age-appropriate reward, such as a special story, group activity, or fairy celebration day.
This helps to:
* Encourage positive behaviour
* Supports social and emotional development
* Builds a sense of community
* Uses imaginative play, which is developmentally appropriate for young children
The fairies are simply a playful way to engage children’s imagination while reinforcing important life skills.

πŸ”” WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Can anyone help us to collect loads of items to improve our outdoor play area for our children? Read below to find out how. ⬇️

We want to offer lots of different non-prescriptive materials to the children, so they foster creativity and problem-solving and the children can use in them in limitless, open-ended ways and enrich their play. This will also support children to develop many other skills including; problem solving, creativity, teamwork and physical development.

We are looking for items such as the examples in the pictures. As long as they are safe for children, (eg no sharp parts) and can be moved by them, we are interested!

Do you work somewhere that uses any of these items? Can you ask family and friends to donate anything? Do you have any items left over from house renovations? Please look out for anything suitable being given away on local social media too! πŸ‘
Thank you so much!

STEM Week:
Our nursery is having STEM week, as it is British Science Week.
πŸ’‘βš™οΈπŸ§¬πŸ”¬πŸ¦ πŸ§ͺ🧫🩻
We have been setting our Pre-schoolers challenges like building a boat that floats and today we their challenge was about Bridges. 🌁
We looked at the different types of bridges and the materials used to build them.
We read the story of Three Billy Goats Gruff and acted out the story using role play. Taking turns to be the troll on the bridge! 🧌 The children all made bridges independently, during play too, which was so lovely to see. πŸ₯°
After that, the children had the challenge to construct their own bridge. They had to work with a partner and discuss what type of bridge they wanted to make and then choose from materials to build it. πŸŒ‰
They all did a brilliant job!

Wonderblocks! πŸŸ’πŸ”΄
This afternoon we introduced the children to the new CeBeebies show Wonderblocks, which is designed to introduce young children to Pre-Coding language. 🧠
β€˜The new animated series blends storytelling with foundational concepts to make complex, educational ideas accessible for young minds. Children will meet new Blocks characters, excitable Go and methodical Stop who showcase the balance of action and thought. Their humorous and energetic adventures emphasise core skills like problem-solving, planning, pattern recognition, sequencing, and logic while also modelling the values of teamwork, friendship, curiosity and a love of learning.’
Afterwards we played a game using Stop πŸ›‘ and Go 🟒 flash cards. The children had to pretend to be certain animals, or do an action but only when they saw the green sign and stop as soon as they saw the red sign. So fun!🀩
We also learnt to stop and pause and the children had to freeze like statues.

We’re having a fantastic first week back at nursery. πŸ‘‹
We are have wonderful Traditional Tales as our new theme and are exploring a different story every day.
🐷🐷🐷🐺πŸ₯🐐🐐🐐🧌🌱
This week the children have enjoyed role play, acting, baking, crafting, Maths and STEM challenges, all connected to fairytale stories such as The Enormous Turnip and Three Little Pigs.
We can’t wait to carry this theme on next week with more fun learning! 😁

This week our children are exploring the five senses.
Today, our pre-schoolers used their sense of Smell and Touch πŸ‘ƒ to do some sensory painting. 🎨
The children had a piece of sandpaper and we touched it to see how it felt with our finger tips. The children said it felt β€˜rough, bumpy, circles and small.’
The children painted pictures with scented paint, so as they painted onto the rough sandpaper, the aroma drifted up and we could smell Vanilla, Cinnamon and Mixed Spice. The room smelt delicious!
Our Yellow group made pictures by ice painting! Lovely way to explore touch and texture and our youngest friends have been getting messy in a tuff tray and using many senses!
We are having so much fun with sight, sound, touch, taste and smell this week! βœ‹πŸ‘€πŸ‘ƒπŸ‘‚πŸ‘…

This morning we got all wrapped up and went outside to enjoy nature’s surprise snow! ❄️

The children played in the snow and made snow balls. We caught snowflakes on our gloves and felt them melt on our faces. This linked really nicely to our sense of the day- Touch πŸ–οΈ

Togther we used words to describe the snow. We said; wet, cold, squishy, stompy and slippery.

Everyone made welly boot prints into the compacted snow and discovered that we all have different shapes and patterns on the soles of our boots! We found; squares, stars, wavy lines, straight lines and rectangles.

The children found lots of worms enjoying the mud and Superworm was amongst his friends! We watched him wriggle, saw him squirm and then he dug underground to find treasures. πŸͺ±
