Calling all parents and carers - we want to hear from you! Essex County Council is committed to providing outstanding childcare services, and every year the Early Years and Childcare Survey is launched to help our teams understand the needs of families in Essex. The 2026 survey is now live until 31st July and includes questions about:
- Childcare needs for children aged 0-5 years
- Wraparound care for school-aged children
- Childcare during the school holidays (holiday clubs)
- Your child’s experience with starting school
- Where you find information about Essex Services
We really value your feedback and would be so grateful if you could spend a few minutes completing this survey. Your responses will be treated in strictest confidence and will remain anonymous. Please follow this link to access the survey: https://consultations.essex.gov.uk/eycc-sufficiency-and-sustainability/essex-early-years-and-childcare-survey-for-parents/

Our Starting Reception Roadshows were a great success across Essex! These fun, friendly, and free events welcomed families whose children are starting Reception Class in September 2026, so a huge thank you to all the families who attended and took part. Sessions were held at several locations across the county, making it easier for families to join. They were full of helpful tips and advice from family and education services about independence, relationships, communication, staying active, and healthy routines - we hope this has helped families to support their children to feel ready for Reception Class. If you weren't able to attend any of these events , please don't worry, we have plenty of support available on our website! This week we will be suggesting some fun Summer activities for you and your child! Today, why not go on a Summer sound hunt? Allow your child to explore an outdoor space and listen for sounds - for example birds, wind, traffic, voices. Your child can describe or copy what they hear; this will develop skills such as listening and attention, descriptive language and turn taking. To support you with this, you can use a set of our 'Out and About cards' - download your FREE copy here: https://www.tlc-essex.info/resource/out-and-about/
