Last Thursday the whole school celebrated World Book Day with fantastic staff costumes, book-inspired cake and door competitions and a free book for all KS3 students.

The highlight of the day though had to be our World Book Day version of the“Traitors” which had all the students and staff guessing along!

Books and the joy of reading were celebrated in our best World Book Day to date!

Last Tuesday was Random Acts of Kindness Day and our book of the week focusses on compassion, community and how a small act of kindness can ripple outwards in the most unexpected ways.

Research has shown that reading helps build empathy and allows us to see the world through someone else’s eyes. Just another reason why it is so important to get reading as part of the National Year of Reading.

It is Children's Mental Health Week so our book of the week has been chosen as it is packed full of ideas and advice from award-winning well-being expert Nicola Morgan.

As we “GO ALL IN” for the National Year of Reading, remember just 10 minutes of reading a day can work wonders. It’s a perfect way to relax, lift your mood, escape life’s pressures, and even beat stress. Reading really is a small habit with big benefits!

We all know the benefits of reading but fewer of us are doing it!

Reading expands minds, builds confidence and fuels creativity. Yet with more distractions and less time, reading for pleasure is in decline across many groups.

The National Year of Reading 2026 is here to change that, by reconnecting reading with everyday culture.

It’s not about guilt or obligation; it’s about helping people see that stories, ideas and imagination belong everywhere.

This week's book is an edge-of-your-seat adventure and perfectly fits with the National Year of Reading's aims.

This week’s book is an edge-of-your-seat adventure that reflects these aims and shows how reading can be an enjoyable part of everyday life.

This week's book of the week is another laugh-out-loud read guaranteed to brighten up the dreariest ofJanuary days! What better way to continue our celebrate the National Year of Reading than with a book that makes you smile!

The National Year of Reading has officially been launched this week. This is a UK-wide campaign designed to help more people rediscover the joy of reading. Everyone knows reading expands worlds, sharpens minds, and fuels creativity. But fewer of us are making time for it.

So this year it’s time for the nation to Go All In.

To mark the occasion, this week’s Book of the Week is another laugh out loud read which reminds us that reading for enjoyment is just as important as reading for learning.

We were proud to take part in the Secondary Sing Aloud last week; performing for the Derbyshire Carers Associations carol service, and then a performance to parents in the evening. It was a joyous day of singing and music making! Well done to the school choir for being superb!
