Year 2 Forest School Adventures 🌿🌳

This half term, Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed their weekly visits to Forest School at Eyes Meadows. Our final session on Thursday was a wonderful way to celebrate all the skills and experiences the children have gained throughout the term.

The children loved getting creative by designing beautiful transient art using natural materials they found around the site. They also demonstrated fantastic teamwork and problem-solving skills during a range of team-building challenges. One of the highlights was building dens together, where they worked collaboratively to create shelters using sticks, branches and other natural resources.

It has been fantastic to see the children grow in confidence, resilience and cooperation while exploring the outdoors. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and positive attitude during every session.🍃✨

🌟 What an amazing way to celebrate the end of the school year! 🌟
This week, every class from Reception through to Year 6 had an incredible time taking part in the Tough Runner event at Gray's Rec.
The children tackled a variety of exciting obstacle courses, including sliding through the fantastic water inflatable. There were smiles, laughter, teamwork, determination, and plenty of fun from start to finish!

It was wonderful to see all of our pupils embracing the experience, supporting one another, and creating lasting memories as we celebrate towards the end of another successful school year.
A huge well done to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a success and a special thank you to RS Coaching for delivering the event.

Tonight was the final round of the RS Coaching Year 5 & 6 Football Tournament, and what a fantastic evening it was.
The team played with incredible passion, determination, and teamwork throughout the competition. Remarkably, they did not concede a single goal in any of their matches tonight and held the first-place team to a draw. After a closely contested tournament, we finished in second place, separated only by goal difference.
We are immensely proud of every player. They worked tirelessly in challenging heat, showed outstanding resilience, and represented themselves brilliantly from start to finish. Their commitment, attitude, and determination were evident in every game.
Well done to the entire team on a fantastic achievement!

Reception have been busy learning all about journeys through our core story, Whatever Next! The children completely immersed themselves in the tale, transforming into Baby Bear for an imaginative trip to the moon. While in space, they wrote postcards to their families back on Earth. Back on solid ground, they added real stamps and proudly walked to the post box to mail them. We can't wait to see the postcards arrive at home!

Thank you to all the parents and families who joined us for our Open Evening yesterday. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, as well as welcoming new families who came to visit our school.

The evening provided a fantastic opportunity for parents to meet their child's new class teacher, explore their new classroom, and begin to look forward to the exciting year ahead. Families also enjoyed seeing some of the beautiful work our pupils have produced, including the stunning artwork created for the DDAT Art Exhibition.

We are incredibly proud of our children and the creativity, effort, and enthusiasm they show in their learning. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success.

🚂🌟 Reception's Wonderful Train Adventure! 🌟🚂

Our Reception children had a fantastic time enjoying a train ride from Duffield Station!

The children were so excited to board the train and set off on their journey, taking in all the sights and sounds along the way. They loved spotting different landmarks, watching the world go by from the window, and seeing the various places where the train stopped during the trip.

It was a wonderful opportunity to explore the local area and experience a real train journey together.

What wonderful afternoons we enjoyed celebrating our KS1 and KS2 Sports Days!

It was fantastic to see the children giving their all, showing determination, teamwork and great sportsmanship throughout every event. From exciting races to cheering on their friends, the pupils truly embodied our school values and made us incredibly proud.

We are also incredibly fortunate to be able to make use of the fantastic facilities at Grays Rec, which provides the perfect space for our sporting events and PE lessons. T

🌟🎭 What a Show! 🎭🌟
We are so proud of all of our KS2 children for their incredible performance of The Wizard of Oz!

A special mention goes to our wonderful Year 6 pupils, who truly shone on stage. Their confidence, talent and dedication was evident in every scene, making this performance a fitting opportunity to showcase their talents and mark the end of their primary school journey. We couldn't be prouder of the way they embraced their chance to shine on stage.

The entire KS2 cast wowed us with their fantastic singing and energetic dancing, bringing the magic of Oz to life for everyone in the audience.

We are absolutely delighted to share that William Gilbert School has finished at the top of the Derbyshire WOW Living Streets leaderboard! 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️🛴

This is a fantastic achievement and reflects the commitment of our pupils and families to choosing active journeys to school throughout the year. Whether walking, wheeling, cycling, scooting or using Park and Stride, every journey has contributed to this success.

Not only does active travel support children's physical health and wellbeing, helping them arrive at school ready to learn, but it also reduces congestion and pollution around our school gates. This achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished when a whole school community works together.

A huge thank you goes to our children for embracing the challenge, our families for supporting active travel, and our dedicated Junior Travel Ambassadors, who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to promote healthier, safer and more sustainable journeys to school.
