After a year of being your President and Vice-President, it’s time for us to officially sign off.

Thank you so much to everyone who has been a part of our time in St Mary’s, both as students and as Union Officers. These have been the best days of our lives, and we are so grateful to have worked as your Union this year.

All the best to Keri and Ciara, who take over from Monday, you are in brilliant hands for the next year.

Look after yourselves and eachother, and we are sure we’ll see you all somewhere down the line.

Best of luck to everyone who is beginning their exams this week. We understand that it can often feel like a lot of pressure, but just remember that you are here on merit, and all of your hard work up to this point will stand by you.

It was a pleasure to be invited to Stormont yesterday as part of the weekly meeting of the Committee for Education in the NI Assembly.

This was to present a student-led appeal for current student teachers in the affected subject areas of the incoming ITE Bursary Scheme, who are currently ineligible for qualification to be exempt of tuition fees.

Thankfully, the appeal was received well with a final decision of further action being taken and the appeal being presented to the Minister for Education, with the hope of a face to face meeting in the near future on the issue.

Huge congratulations to Ben O’Hagan, Ryan Davey, Jacinta King and Maud Barr for having the courage to speak on behalf of their cohorts on the issue, and again to Ben for his tireless work on creating his “Tapered ITE Bursary Model” for presentation!
