The inspection starts with the access plan.
Before an inspection begins, the team needs a safe way to reach the work area, maintain secure positioning and respond if conditions change.
For difficult-access assets, planning should consider:
• the access method and rope paths
• suitable anchorage
• structure and surface conditions
• dropped-object controls
• weather and environmental exposure
• team competence, supervision and rescue arrangements
Only once access is controlled can the technical inspection be completed safely and efficiently.
Dangle® supports inspection, maintenance and repair in hard-to-reach industrial environments.

Every wind career begins with the same safety foundation.
Whether you are working towards installation, maintenance, inspection or blade repair, GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) is the industry-recognised safety certification required across wind turbine technician roles.
The four-day programme develops practical safety knowledge and skills through four core modules: Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, Working at Heights and First Aid. It does not replace role-specific qualifications or experience, but it is the essential first step those pathways build from.
At Dangle Academy in Belfast, we deliver GWO BST for candidates preparing to work across the wind industry in Northern Ireland, the UK and Europe.
Which route are you working towards? View the course or ask our team which training pathway best supports your goals.

From caving to industrial rope access
Modern industrial rope access did not appear from nowhere. Many early techniques and items of equipment were adapted from caving, potholing and climbing—particularly the methods used to ascend and descend fixed ropes.
But modern IRATA rope access is not simply caving transferred into the workplace. Those ideas were developed and formalised into a managed two-rope, fail-to-safe system of work, supported by training, assessment, supervision, equipment controls and rescue planning.
IRATA’s own history began with solving difficult maintenance problems in the offshore industry. What started with shared ropework principles has developed into a globally used method for safe industrial access.
At Dangle Academy in Belfast, candidates learn the structured controls and practical skills required for industrial application.

New blog: Hiring Rope Access NDT Technicians
For asset owners, appointing the right team means checking more than rope access certification alone. Technicians must combine safe positioning with recognised NDT competence, supported by suitable RAMS, rescue planning and clear reporting.
Our latest guide covers dual IRATA and NDT certification, team structure, pre-mobilisation checks, commercial efficiency and the information a professional inspection report should provide.
