U12 Match Report ⚽️

What a fantastic morning for our U12 girls as they played their first-ever match for the school on a lovely sunny morning! 16 girls had been selected for their 1st 9 aside game in the league against ICG.

The girls have only had two training sessions together, and many of them had never played together before, so it was fantastic to see how quickly they came together as a team.

The girls started brightly and showed plenty of confidence, enjoying lots of possession and creating several attempts on goal and deservedly got themselves ahead with a lovely finish from Olivia.

The girls worked incredibly hard in the second half and continued to push for a 2nd goal but we were then caught out by a fantastic free kick that simply couldn’t be stopped.

To their credit, the girls never gave up. They kept pushing, battling for every ball and looking for a way back into the game. They continued to search for a winner right until the final whistle, but it wasn’t to be and the match finished as a draw.

A huge well done to all 16 girls who represented the school today. With only two training sessions under their belts, and many playing together for the first time, there was so much to be proud of.

It was brilliant to see such a great turnout, and even better to know that there are many more girls keen to get involved in the next match.

A fantastic first outing for the team — plenty of promise, plenty of smiles and lots to look forward to!

Congratulations Ellie - what a Model Star!

We are delighted to recognise our Year 8 Form Captains and Vice Captains. These students have been nominated by their classmates for their positive attitude, leadership potential, and commitment to their form groups. Throughout the year, they will act as role models, support their classmates, and help to build a strong sense of community within our school. We congratulate them on this achievement and look forward to seeing the excellent contributions they will make in their new roles.

Junior Prize Day 2026

On Thursday 1st October, we were delighted to celebrate the achievements, commitment and success of our junior students at our annual Junior Prize Giving.

A huge thank you to our guest speaker, Linda McKibbin, for joining us again and sharing her inspiring words and encouragement.

We were also treated to a beautiful musical performance from Amber (Year 10), who sang 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'.

Congratulations to all of our prize winners and award recipients. We are incredibly proud of everything you have accomplished and look forward to seeing all that you will achieve in the years ahead.

ORACY OCTOBER

Oracy October is a month-long celebration of oracy. It aims to raise awareness of the important role oracy plays in supporting young people to transform their learning and their lives. Oracy October 2026 in The Belfast Model School for Girls will focus on appropriate talk and effective listening skills, with a theme of The Time for Oracy is Now!

In school, oracy is a powerful tool for learning; by teaching students to become more effective speakers and listeners we empower them to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them. It is also a route to social mobility, empowering all students, not just some, to find their voice to succeed in school and life.
The benefits of improved oracy include gained confidence which supports academic learning, improved pathways, social skills, behaviour and overall happiness through communication and connection.

Oracy October in Year 12 English

Mrs McKeown's Year 12 English class have been busy preparing for their Unit 4 examination in November. As part of Oracy October, students explored creative writing by discussing and sharing powerful words linked to the five senses. There was plenty of talking, listening, and collaboration as we took our learning outdoors to enjoy the autumn sunshine and gather inspiration from the world around us. We rounded off the lesson with a fun taste test, helping students think carefully about sensory language and how it can bring their writing to life.

Marie Curie Coffee Morning Success!

A huge thank you to all staff who supported our Marie Curie UK Coffee Morning. The event was a wonderful showcase of the incredible baking talents across our staff, with a delicious selection of cakes, traybakes, buns and sweet treats enjoyed by everyone.

Thanks to the generosity of staff, we are delighted to announce that we have raised £530 to date for Marie Curie. Every donation will help Marie Curie continue to provide essential care and support for people living with terminal illness and their families.

Well done to everyone who baked, donated, purchased treats, and helped make the morning such a success. Together, we have made a real difference while enjoying some fantastic home baking and community spirit.
