Congratulations to our past pupil Dr Susan Lagdon on being awarded an MBE, what an amazing achievement!

🎉🎉🎉

Our warmest congratulations to Dr Susan Lagdon, who has been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours for her exceptional contribution to advancing understanding and prevention of gender‑based violence in Northern Ireland.

A leading expert in ending violence against women and girls, her landmark Every Voice Matters report, commissioned by The Executive Office and informed by the experiences of more than 540 women, provided vital evidence on the prevalence, impacts and under-reporting of violence. It has informed strategic policymaking and ensured that the experiences of survivors remain at the heart of conversations on prevention, justice and support.

Building on this work, her Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes (HSKT) Coercive Control public awareness campaign has strengthened public understanding, while enhancing the capacity of organisations and practitioners to respond effectively.

Here at Ulster University, Dr Lagdon has been pivotal to EVAWG initiatives, staff and student training, and cross‑sector partnerships. As co‑chair of the EVAWG Tertiary Education Working Group, she provides research‑led leadership to support a coordinated, sector‑wide approach to prevention and response across colleges and universities.

A huge thank you to past pupil and personal trainer Brandon Corr for giving up his time today to speak with our Year 11 Engineering group about men’s mental health and the importance of looking after yourself both physically and mentally.

Afterwards, Brandon put the boys through their paces with a gym session which they absolutely loved! 💪

The boys took so much from today and are incredibly grateful for Brandon’s time, honesty and support. Thank you for making such a positive impact 👏
