A story worth exploring. 📚

The story of Integrated Education in Northern Ireland began with people who believed children from different backgrounds could learn together, and communities that turned that belief into reality.

The Linen Hall’s exhibition, All Children Together and the Story of Integrated Education in Northern Ireland, brings together archive material, photographs and oral histories that explore the people, stories and milestones behind the movement.

Originally displayed at The Linen Hall , the exhibition is now available to explore online - making this important part of our shared history accessible to everyone.

This past week, we had leaders from schools representing all age ranges present at our Strategic Leadership in Anti-Bias course, which was held at Black Mountain Shared Space Project in Belfast. We spent two days working together to establish clear actions for each school to take forward on its anti-bias journey. A course like this relies heavily on the energy, openness and enthusiasm of its participants, and we are grateful to those present for everything they brought to it.

We also thank the Black Mountain Shared Space and its team for their hospitality and for enabling us to utilise a space so closely tied to our work.

🎉 Congratulations to the whole school community at Killyleagh Integrated Primary and Nursery School on achieving the Excellence in Integrated Education Award and celebrating 10 years since successfully transforming to become an Integrated school! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is a fantastic milestone and a wonderful reflection of the commitment of pupils, staff, parents, governors and the wider school community to learning together, embracing diversity and building a culture of respect and belonging.

WomenEd Leaders will host their Northern Ireland Unconference this weekend, on Saturday 3rd October. This is an opportunity to "celebrate, connect and collaborate with WomenEd Northern Ireland", which "empowers and supports women in education".

is strongly represented at the unconference, with Sandra Patterson acting as conference organiser and leading some sessions, Lucinda Miller leading a session, and Hilary Harbinson and Anne Anderson showcasing New-Bridge Integrated College in a session called ‘Power of the Pair’. Our colleagues at the Integrated Education Fund will be in attendance as a ‘partner in progress’ of the WomenEd NI team.

We were delighted to attend the Transformed Integrated Nursery Cluster Joint Staff Development Day with all the staff from Brefne Integrated Nursery School, Bangor Integrated Nursery School, Ballymena Integrated Nursery School , Downshire Nursery School and Magherafelt Nursery School. We had a wonderful start to the day with a session entitled "What Else Could Be True?" delivered by Victoria the Principal at Brefne INS, who helped us explore inclusion, belonging, implicit bias and the narratives we construct. We then had a keynote address from Professor Glenda Walsh from Stranmillis University College
who helped us consider the practical strategies for refocusing on meaningful child-led play. We closed the day with a session focussing on living out our Integrated Ethos in practice. Tiarnán and Claire delivered a session entitled An Introduction to Anti-Bias in Education for the staff at Glencraig Integrated Primary School on Friday. This was part of the school's renewal process for the Excellence in Integrated Education Award. We had a great time at the school, and thank the staff for their commitment, energy and contributions.
