We are deeply saddened to hear the news that Eugene Martin, the founding Principal of Ulidia Integrated College has passed away. Eugene holds a special place in many peoples hearts and minds for the vision he held for providing an Integrated College in East Antrim. He was a true pioneer for the Integrated Education movement and after his retirement he continued to dedicate time and energy into Integrated schools, supporting their ethos and leadership.
Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with Eugene's family, friends and loved ones, as well as the whole Ulidia Integrated College community, both past and present at this very difficult time.

It is with profound sadness that the entire Ulidia Integrated College community marks the passing of our founding Principal, Mr Eugene Martin, who died peacefully at home on Friday, 14 August 2026.
Mr Martin’s vision, courage and unwavering belief in integrated education helped transform what was once an ambitious dream into the thriving and successful school community that Ulidia Integrated College is today. Appointed as the College’s founding Principal in 1997, he led the school from its earliest beginnings, when there were no permanent buildings, limited resources and many challenges, inspiring staff, governors, parents and pupils with his determination that integrated education would flourish in East Antrim.
Through his exceptional leadership, dedication and vision, Ulidia grew from its modest beginnings into one of Northern Ireland’s most respected integrated schools, recognised for academic excellence, outstanding pastoral care and its commitment to educating young people from all backgrounds together in an atmosphere of understanding, respect and tolerance.
Those who worked with Mr Martin remember not only his professionalism and educational leadership, but also his warmth, compassion, humility and deep commitment to every young person and member of staff in his care. His life embodied the values of reconciliation, inclusion and hope that remain at the heart of the College today.
The success and strength of Ulidia Integrated College stand as a lasting testament to his vision and perseverance. Without Eugene Martin’s leadership, dedication and belief in what integrated education could achieve, the College would not have become the vibrant and thriving community it is today.
As a College family, we mourn the loss of a visionary, inspirational leader and cherished friend. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Moyra, his children, grandchildren and the wider Martin family.
His legacy lives on in every pupil whose life has been enriched by the Integrated school he helped create, and in every member of the Ulidia community who continues to benefit from the foundations he laid.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam / At the right hand of God may his soul be.
