🎶 What a wonderful way to begin our lunchtime music recitals at VCB! 🎶

Our first recital today was an absolute treat for everyone in attendance. We were captivated by the stunning musical performances from Aeris, Chloe and Serena — a truly uplifting experience and food for the soul.

A huge thank you to our wonderful Music Department and prefects for all their organisation and hard work in making today’s recital such a special occasion.

We’re already looking forward to the next one in two weeks’ time! 🎵✨

Another exciting weekend of hockey ahead at VCB, with both senior and junior teams taking to the pitch!

The 1st XI play their final Stevenson Cup group match, while the U14A are also in Stevenson Cup action.

Sending our very best wishes to all our teams and coaching staff for a great morning of hockey. 🏑

With the temperatures starting to drop, all support from the sidelines would be very warmly welcomed! Our players really appreciate the encouragement and atmosphere created by our wonderful supporters.

🚀 World Space Week 2026 🚀

Yesterday, pupils in 8H Science celebrated World Space Week by taking part in an exciting I’m a Scientist, Get Me Out of Here! Space Chat.💬

This student-led STEM enrichment activity connected pupils with scientists through a live, text-based online discussion, giving them the opportunity to ask their own questions about space, scientific discoveries, university study and careers in STEM.

During the session, pupils chatted with a range of scientists working in space-related fields, including:

🔭 Emily Walls, an astrophysics PhD student researching stars in nearby galaxies;

🪐 Jonathan Mound, a Professor at the University of Leeds who uses satellite data and computer models to investigate the deep interiors of Earth and other planets;

☄️ Martin McCoustra, an astrochemist whose research explores how chemistry has influenced the evolution of the Universe;

🌍 Chloé Gruyer, a planetary scientist whose work focuses on space, rocks and fossils.

The pupils asked a wide variety of insightful and thought-provoking questions, gaining first-hand experience of how scientists work and the diverse career pathways available within STEM. The session provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate World Space Week while inspiring curiosity, critical thinking and a passion for scientific discovery.💡

A special thank you to Emily, Jonathan, Martin and Chloé for taking the time to share their expertise and experiences with our pupils. Opportunities such as these help bring science to life and show young people the exciting possibilities that STEM can offer.

Congratulations to Pandora in Year 11, who has been selected to represent Northern Ireland on the Home Nations team for Compound Archery at the Archery GB Junior National Indoor Championships on 7 December. 🎯

A fantastic achievement, Pandora — we wish you the very best of luck as you take on this exciting challenge!

It is wonderful to see such success across such a breadth of activities and interests at the College and we are incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment shown by our pupils. ✨

We were delighted to welcome Andrew Nunn from the National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland (NYCNI) to school last Thursday for his annual visit.

Andrew spent the morning with our Junior Chamber Choir, leading a fun and engaging workshop that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. In the afternoon, he worked with our Senior Chamber Choir, challenging them with some demanding repertoire and helping them develop their skills and confidence.

Andrew’s annual visits are always a highlight for our young singers and our pupils once again loved the opportunity to work with him.

It was particularly encouraging to see so many of our pupils audition for the National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland at the end of the workshops. We wish them all the very best with their auditions! 🎵👏

A huge thank you to Andrew for another inspiring and enjoyable day of music-making. We look forward to welcoming him back again next year!

Congratulations to Year 13 pupil, Kitty, who received a Commendation in the Philosophy Section of the prestigious John Locke Institute Global Essay Prize.

With 100,000 students from around the world entering this year, Kitty’s essay was shortlisted among the top 17% of candidates — an outstanding achievement!

Kitty attended the conference and gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair this weekend, celebrating alongside some of the world’s brightest young academics.

Congratulations, Kitty — an incredible achievement! 🌟

Our Year 13 Biology and Chemistry students spent an exciting day at AFBI Hillsborough last Wednesday, discovering how science is driving innovation within the agri-food industry.

From investigating soil health and grass breeding programmes to exploring renewable energy through anaerobic digestion, dairy production, and animal welfare, students gained first-hand experience of scientific research in action. A particular highlight was the opportunity to meet scientists from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines, who shared insights into their careers, current research projects, and the real-world impact of their work. Students gained a valuable understanding of how scientific research is helping to address challenges in agriculture, sustainability, food production and animal welfare.

The visit also included the Education Village, where students had the opportunity to meet representatives from CAFRE, Queen’s University Belfast, Ulster University and the Livestock and Meat Commission, gaining valuable insight into future study and career pathways. 🔎

A fantastic day linking classroom learning with real-world scientific research and innovation. Thank you to AFBI for hosting us! ✨
