Mitchell House School Mitchell House is a special school for children with physical disabilities and associated learning difficulties. It truly is a special wee school!

Our pupils are wonderful individuals who bring joy and laughter with them into school everyday. Mitchell House is a Belfast Education and Library Board co-educational special school for children with physical disabilities. Most of our students have an associated learning difficulty to some degree. Located in East Belfast, the school offers places for up to 90 children between ages 2 to 19 year from Belfast, North Down and the surrounding areas. Children are admitted to the school following consultation with parents and after medical and educational assessments have taken place by the relevant Education and Health boards. A coordinated educational and therapeutic approach is provided by a multi disciplinary team of teachers, support staff and therapy personnel. The school includes a Nursery Pre-school, Primary and Post Primary Department. The school follows the full Curriculum for Northern Ireland. Pupil progress is monitored and recorded through continuous assessment in all learning areas with appropriate external accreditation at key stages 2,3 and 4. Pupils may attend the school for a further two years following the statutory leaving age. Annual reviews are held for every student to confirm the appropriateness of the placement or to recommend another more suitable placement. In addition the school provides outreach support for disabled children and their teachers in mainstream schools through the Mitchell House Support service (MHSS). The scheme is supported through DENI and BELB and is available to schools within all five Education and Library Boards. The staff consists of Principal, Vice-Principal, 11 full time and 3 part-time assistant teachers, 32 classroom and 7 general assistants. In addition the school has Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy departments and a Nurse .

⭐ Back to school with the Stars! ⭐

It’s been a fabulous start to the new school year for our Stars class!
Everyone has settled back in brilliantly and we’ve already packed so much into our first few weeks.
We’ve enjoyed trips to the library, starting our shared class novel, lots of practical learning, baking, spending time with Raia, and even turning our classroom into our very own cinema! 📚🍪🎬
Here are just a few snapshots of our Stars enjoying being back together and getting stuck into school life again. 🌟

We’re looking forward to lots more fun, learning and new experiences throughout the year!
