St Mary’s CBGS Celebrates Strong GCSE Results!
St Mary’s Christian Brothers’ Grammar School is celebrating another strong set of GCSE results, with 91% of pupils achieving at least five passes at grades A*–C or equivalent.
There were some exceptional individual performances across the Year 12 cohort. Alan Yu Xuan was the school’s highest-achieving pupil, securing 3 A* and 11 As. Kealan McCrea followed closely with an outstanding 9 A* and 4 As.
Reece Peoples achieved 4 A*, 6 As and a B, while Finn Brady secured 2 A* and 9 As. Conor McKee recorded 3 A*, 6 As and 2 Bs, with Ryan Carlin achieving an A*, 9 As and a B.
Malachi Smyth also featured among the school’s highest-performing pupils with 7 A*, 3 Bs and 2 Cs. Conall Dempsey achieved 2 A*, 6 As and 3 Bs, while Jude McCrea secured 2 A*, 6 As, 2 Bs and a C.
Strong performances were recorded across a range of subjects, with several departments returning particularly high A–C pass rates. 100% pass rates were recorded in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computing, Gaeilge, Business and BTEC Sport. Mathematics continued an impressive record over recent years with 92% A*-C, alongside a fantastic 90% A*- C in English.
These results were a continuation of the return to pre-pandemic standards, with headline results surpassing those of last year, highlighted by 72% of students achieving 7+ A*-C including Mathematics and English.
Principal Mr Brendan McComb said:
“GCSE results day is always an important occasion at St Mary’s and I am delighted to see our pupils celebrating the rewards of their hard work. There have been some exceptional individual performances, alongside achievements across the year group of which pupils and their families can be very proud.
“Our staff have invested a huge amount of time and energy in supporting these pupils throughout their GCSE studies, and I want to thank them for their commitment. Parents and guardians have also played an invaluable role, providing encouragement and support throughout what can be a demanding two years.
“For many of our Year 12 pupils, the next step will be Sixth Form here at St Mary’s. Others will pursue new opportunities elsewhere. We congratulate them all on what they have achieved and wish them every success in whatever path they choose.”
