L for Learner.
Over the past few days I've noticed several pathetic reactions to learner drivers, particularly tailgating and reckless overtakes.
Learners are some of our most vulnerable road users and you don't know what level of experience they have. Why get so worked up and Lash out at them for your impatience? - especially when it could end up putting yourself, the learner and/or other road users.
Hold back from a learner
- you don't know how they'll react to hazards ahead, and if they're a bit heavy on the brakes, it gives you more time to stop.
Don't overtake when you're cutting it close to do so safely
- as a learner is taught to avoid causing any of the four S's to other road users, you too should show that same courtesy. Your action should not cause a learner to Slow down, Swerve, Stop or Sound their horn.
Remember you had to learn once
- sometimes a little bit of extra care for others, not just learners, goes a long way on the roads, but with learners having less experience than most it could make a big difference if you show them a bit more care and respect.
