Some high tech gear arrived on site today for a 360° telehandler course. Operated from the cab or via a remote, as shown in the photos, these machines are highly versatile, have good reach and capacity, but require a bit more skill to operate safely.
Today's candidate was in for a refresher course so just brushing up on the skills.

Fresh from passing her Class 2 HGV earlier in the week, Bronagh McMahon visited us on a cold, wet and windy Friday, and had no trouble adding rough terrain telehandler to her skills.
Fortunately for Bronagh, she had the luxury of a heated cab, unlike our instructor who enjoyed a good soaking while keeping a close eye on the trainee.

Safety Lift all at Sea!
Or almost. One of our jobs this week was a slightly more unusual location on and off a boat with crane training for Heyn Handling Solutions. Though our instructor allegedly has a good set of sea legs, he was thankful it was alongside the quay so he could get home in time to walk the dog.
Some very experienced crew members were put through their paces, first mentally, then practically, on the boat mounted cranes lifting loads from ship to shore and back, and from on deck to the hold. Easy enough when tied up on the quay but quite another story in a bit of a swell at sea.
The deck crew and engineers managed a clean sweep of passes.

All quiet again on a cold Sunday after a busy week of training.

We attended a Northern Ireland Group (NISG) meeting yesterday where the topic of Dynamic Risk Assessment was discussed. While the speaker from Babcock considered the role of Dynamic Risk Assessment within the rail industry, many of the key concepts are applicable across different industries.

It was a busy spot at our training centre today.
Counter balance forklift, MEWP and telehandler training meant we had a full house, with Tom, Gilbert, Innis and Gerard the instructors on hand to ensure our trainees received the best advice and guidance en route to their operator certificates.

Our instructor Innis paid a visit to Newtownabbey today for a safe slinging course at W Hall Forklift Centre with some of their engineers. Thankfully the lifting appliance used wasn't the truck pictured which, oddly enough, lacked a LOLER certificate.
There was a lot of information for candidates to take in, along with a practical session, but there was a good mix of humour along with the learning and safe to say, they all passed with flying colours.
