Floral Hall Belfast

Floral Hall Belfast

A former Ballroom located in the grounds of Belfast Zoo. The Hall has been closed since the 1970's and is awaiting restoration. Designed by D.W.

One of Belfast’s best-loved but nearly forgotten buildings, the Floral Hall has a long and illustrious history as a place of entertainment and romance. Built in the mid-1930s it is a beautiful modernist dance hall. As the city’s pre-eminent entertainment venue for over thirty five years, loves, romances and marriages were born here. Public affection is rooted in a generation of people from Belfast

Over a year later after hearing this and still no news, The Floral Hall turns 80 years old in May 2016 so it would be nice to have it reopened or at least restored by then. Hate the idea of the Hall having to suffer through another winter :'(

You wouldn't think that the Floral Hall is just 2 years off till she's 80. Still looking good in her old age. I will hopefully get round to making a new video for Floral Hall Belfast as part of the Hall's 80th birthday in May 4th 2016. If anyone has any memories or photographs of the Hall in its heyday then feel free to contact us.

Just saw this video of the Bellevue site that was filmed in 1997. The steps look in great shape here but it was only starting to become overgrown not long after this was filmed, thankfully now it looks like it did in the video. If anyone would like to visit the Bellevue site then be sure to go on one of the Old Zoo Tours at some point.

Around this time 81 years ago in Jan/Feb 1933, Plans to construct a dancehall on the Bellevue Plateau were drawn up but was abandoned due to costs. Following the success of the Zoological Gardens a plan to construct a dancehall in the grounds of Hazelwood began. Following this two years later, The Floral Hall was opened to the public in May 1936.
