An Ghaeilge Abú!
All Irish students at St Malachy’s recently had the opportunity to have their hard work and enthusiasm for the language recognised through the College’s annual Scéim na bhFáinní (Fáinne Scheme).
There is a strong tradition of Irish at the school, and this was reflected in the impressive number of awards presented.
Over 400 students were awarded either their Cúpla Focal badge, Bunteastas, Fáinne Airgid, Meánteastas, or Fáinne Óir.
Congratulations to all the boys involved on this outstanding achievement.
Míle buíochas le Cumann Cultúrtha Mhic Reachtain a chuidigh linn ar an lá.

Our Year 10 French Language Leaders recently had the opportunity to visit St Thérèse of Lisieux Primary, where they led lively and interactive French taster sessions for pupils in P4–P7.
From introducing simple phrases to leading fun, hands-on activities, our students created a welcoming and engaging environment that encouraged the younger pupils to give French a go. It was fantastic to see their confidence, creativity, and leadership skills shine throughout lessons.
A brilliant experience for everyone involved – well done to our French Language Leaders for making such a positive impact!

A key part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is volunteering, requiring participants to dedicate their time to support local communities or the environment. Over the past year, our Year 10 Bronze participants have embraced this challenge, engaging in a diverse range of volunteering initiatives. Their activities have included assisting coaching sessions at local GAA and soccer clubs, sharing their skills by providing music tuition, and helping at various local charitable organisations.
Between April 2025 and March 2026, our Year 10 cohort achieved an impressive milestone, contributing a total of 507 hours of collective service! This effort represents excellent service leadership and a genuine commitment to helping others. We commend the boys for their hard work, reliability, and the positive impact they have made within our local community, and we congratulate all involved on this well-deserved achievement.
