My other hat 💍🤵‍♀️

Step 8: The Ceremony

By the time the big day has arrived, I will have spent around 20 hours - meeting and getting to know you, designing, scripting and editing your ceremony. And all of that effort to craft the most authentic piece of writing for you, needs to be matched with a pitch perfect delivery.

‘What is your style?’

The perfect question to ask your potential celebrant. While every one of my amazing colleagues accredited by Humanists UK will be trained to the same exacting standards, the absolute joy of a humanist wedding is that we we all bring our own unique style to the ceremony and it’s about find the right fit for you.

Me, I thrive on being utterly prepared with a winning script that has your seal of approval but then trusting the magic of the moment to direct the flow of the ceremony! With a background in performance, reading the room and adapting to the atmosphere is where I feel most in my element.

Perhaps I see that you feeling overcome with emotion and are going to struggle to steady your voice; perhaps we have a joke that really gets the crowd rolling with laughter; maybe there’s a little one who is determined to join you two at the front or maybe we are outside, like this one when the birds have decided to break in to full chorus!

My strengths lie in being able to improvise and adapt to the environment on the day to ensure that your wedding story is perfectly you. Memorable, meaningful and marvellous craic!

Hi folks! As some of you know, I have been busy adding a new string to my bow this year and I am delighted to say I am now a Humanist Wedding Celebrant. This is something I have wanted to do since Dan and I had such a brilliant experience at our own humanist wedding in 2016.

It is such a privilege to be part of a couple's special day and I can't to get started!

I would love it if you could give me a wee follow, say hello and maybe share with any friends who might be ready to start their own wedding adventure!

Excited to add this role into my work!

How it started Versus How it’s going!!

My first baby is BYT.
Born in 2010, my heart and soul has been pumped into it since. And always will be, however …

2021 saw the arrival of my very own bright young thing, a little baby boy called Art and my whole heart and soul had to go on loan this little man for a while.

And now Rafe, our second little boy has arrived hot on the heels of his brother and he too deserves his turn at getting all of my heart and soul.

So with a 15 month old mini explorer and a 5 week old new born baby, these two are well and truly keeping me busy.

For now, this means Bright Young Things Drama must wait in the wings for a little longer until the time is right to open the curtains again to a world of confidence, communication and creativity for the young people of NI.

Please do stay in touch in the meantime as in can continue to deliver one off bookings ( and I just love hearing the craic with you all!) and we’ll see you back at it with our whole heart and soul once more in 2023 😍

Let the good times roll!!

This is Art Rafferty, the newest member of the Bright Young Things family and my first baby, born 18th July with a pretty theatrically entrance.

At 30 weeks pregnant, I opened the doors on our first week of summer camps for 2021, only to have to close the doors 2 days later. Contracting Covid in the third trimester of pregnancy was certainly worrying but I reassured myself that I was fit and healthy, had no symptoms but better to be safe than sorry.

Unfortunately over the coming days I deteriorated to the point where I was on route to a life support machine when two amazing maternity consultants suggested there might be one other option left to try- deliver the baby by emergency caesarean section in the hope that this would allow my lungs the space to work.

Luckily they were right and baby Art was born a couple of hours later at 32 weeks and my little boy’s arrival in the world allowed me to breathe again.

Art and I have been in hospital recovering and getting strong across the summer with the help of the utter angels that work in Royal maternity hospital but I am pleased to say we are back home and the 3 of us are getting to know each other.

After his dramatic arrival, Art has decided that he wants his mummy all to himself for a while now and who am I to argue with the boss!

As such, BYT Drama will be closed for maternity leave from now until next year.

Myself and the BYT Team will really miss our weekly classes nurturing confidence, communication and creativity in all of your bright young things.

Personally, BYT has been my baby for the last 11 years and I have thrown all my energy into making it the most authentic and valuable experience possible for every child, parent and team member who has joined the BYT family. I believe so strongly that children deserve to feel full of imagination and self belief, however now it’s time for the new baby in my life to get all of my attention for a wee while.

We will most certainly be back and might even have some pop up workshops along the way but for now, we are pressing pause.

All of our amazing BYT team will be super busy with other exciting projects in the arts sector so keep an eye out here for lots of creative events going on in Northern Ireland, updates on BYT and perhaps some cute photos of the main man, Art.

Thank you truly to everyone who has been involved in BYT. We have always had such a caring and loyal community and value each and every one of you and your children. Please feel free to give me a shout at any time and I can’t wait to see you all again next year for more adventures.

Please be aware that BYT is closed due to sickness.

We will be in touch as soon as it is possible.

Rest assured this will not effect your forthcoming summer camp booking in Belfast and Holywood, we will be in contact regarding the camps a few days before.

Many thanks for your patience.

“I would tell everyone to join the BYT Actor’s Studio if they get the chance. The experience that week has acted as the fire to ignite what will hopefully be a lifelong career in all aspects of the creative arts. We used to be gutted every day when we had to go home it was that good!“

An amazing drama facilitator knows how to blend education and play, arts and wellbeing, debate and devising.

They know when to jump in and support and individual and when to step away and let them meet a challenge independently.

At BYT we team facilitator, so there is a Lead Facilitator who has created the story of the workshop, delivers and evaluates the sessions. The assistant facilitator is there to help to create the environment and bring individuals along for the adventure. Our assistants will all have a qualification or level of training in the arts. With a little experience on the job, you will also get the chance to lead activities and receive feedback and may even progress to co facilitator. This makes for one of the most supportive and motivating places to work!

If you are
ENERGETIC
CURIOUS
PLAYFUL
PASSIONATE

BYT might just be the place for you!

Our first priority recruitment is for Assistant facilitators in Ballymena and Magherafelt. However we are always ready to meet new amazing team members for all our roles.

*please note you must have qualifications or training in the arts to apply for an assistant facilitator*
