Belfast Met is the largest further and Higher Education College in Northern Ireland and one of the largest in the UK. We have developed a dynamic new curriculum which mirrors the priority growth areas identified for Northern Ireland as this is where future jobs will be created. Through our partnerships with industry, we constantly adapt our curriculum to meet the skill demands of our economy. We provide a unique breadth of education and training at every level and have designed a portfolio of courses to address a variety of skill needs – from apprenticeship and Level 1 courses, to those undertaking degrees and post-graduate study. Coupled with this is our commitment to ensuring that our students have access to opportunities which will enhance their employability and job-ready skills. Our focus for the future is to support the development of Belfast by providing education, training and skills development to enhance individual, community and economic prosperity. Over the next three years we will sustain and improve our responsiveness to learners, employers and communities. The College has already built an excellent reputation with employers for offering relevant, high quality learning. We will build on this by focusing on developing long-term mutually beneficial partnerships and becoming recognised as an expert in key and emerging growth areas. Working in partnership, we will increase participation, progression, attainment and skill levels of all our students.

🔧Our Level 2 Plumbing students recently welcomed Nick Bassett from Precision Heating Ltd to Belfast Met for an engaging industry talk.

Students learned about Viessmann boilers, heating controls and renewable heating solutions, gaining valuable insight into the technologies shaping the future of the plumbing and heating industry.

A big thank you to Nick for sharing his expertise and helping our students connect classroom learning with real-world industry experience.

🏆 We are delighted to share that Georgina Shepard has been awarded Best HR Student at the prestigious CIPD Northern Ireland Awards, held on 1 October.

This outstanding achievement reflects Georgina's dedication to her CIPD studies at Belfast Met and the exceptional contribution she makes as a people professional at NI Hospice, supporting a workforce that makes a difference every day.

Pictured alongside Georgina is fellow Belfast Met CIPD graduate Gemma Lowry, also of NI Hospice, who was a worthy finalist in the category. Together, they are fantastic ambassadors for both Belfast Met and NI Hospice.

We are immensely proud of their achievements and know their success will inspire our current CIPD students as they progress through their studies and careers.

📸 New friendships, great memories and plenty of Freshers Fair fun!

On Tuesday, thousands of students joined us at our Titanic Quarter Campus for Freshers Fair 2026, taking the opportunity to explore the wide range of exhibitors, support services and opportunities available throughout the year.

There was plenty happening on the day, from free caricatures and giveaways to complimentary haircuts from our talented Belfast Met Barbering students. 💈✨

Most importantly, it was fantastic to see so many students getting involved, making connections, meeting new people and making the most of everything Belfast Met has to offer.

From ice cream and caricatures to competitions, giveaways, career advice and student support, our campus was buzzing with activity as students explored everything on offer.

As the new term gets underway, our dedicated Library team has been helping students discover the wide range of resources available to support their learning and development. 📚

Last week, it was the turn of our ILM Coaching and Mentoring students, who were introduced to the latest addition to our shelves, ‘Lead Self First’, written by former Belfast Met student, Caroline McKenna.

Caroline continues to be a valued supporter of our coaching programmes, regularly returning as a guest speaker to share her expertise, experiences, and insights with aspiring coaches. Seeing the work of one of our alumni featured in the library is a powerful reminder of the impact our students can go on to make in their chosen fields.

Congratulations to Caroline on the publication of her latest book. We are proud to have ‘Lead Self First’ in our collection and look forward to it inspiring the next generation of coaching and mentoring professionals.
