Ready for Anything

Ready for Anything teaches resilience skills to children and young people, allowing them to deal with life’s challenges safely and positively

What a wonderful year this has been - huge thanks to all the children who have taken part in Ready for Anything. I hope you have enjoyed it and gained from it. It has been a privilege to get to know each and every one of you - I hope you all have the best Summer EVER!

Wise words from the incredibly talented Lauren in Dundonald Primary School #lifemotto

A few comments from the end of term evaluations ❤️

**More Information About What We Do at our Summer Clubs**

During our Summer clubs each week we will complete a term time ten week programme, covering a number of different topics each day. Monday – The topics on day 1 are me and who matters to me – This an exploration of who you are, what makes you unique, the roles we play and the important people in our lives (one trusted adult research theory). Tuesday – Day 2 topics are emotional recognition and control – this provides self-tailored coping strategies when dealing with big emotions. Wednesday – On day 3 we cover confidence and self-esteem – This builds confidence and covers topics including making mistakes as a vital part of learning, breaks future goals into shorter term targets and spotting and changing negative thought patterns. There is a constant emphasis throughout the week on building confidence through the constant sharing of work with the group. Thursday – Day 4 covers friendship, community, decision making and integrity – this looks at positive and negative friendship behaviours, our place and potential place in the community and world, how we make decisions and our life mottos. On Friday we cover the key areas of gratitude, kindness and children’s rights followed by the presentation of a slide bound book of all of the work done over the week. Each day we will make an item for a calm down box tool kit to bring home at the end of the week such as, coloured-in affirmation cards, water beads, glitter bottles, pinwheels and slime. And games – lots of games and singing. So good we are doing it twice - Monday 29th July – Friday 2nd August and Monday 5th August – Friday 9th August 2019. Can’t wait!!

Ready for Anything is an award winning programme which builds resilience skills in children. It is currently delivered in a number of schools across Northern Ireland. Classes are offered in two groups to Primary 1 - 3 and Primary 4 - 7 aged children.

Each week we will cover key resilience building topics - who I am and what is important to me, the roles I play and the important people in my life, emotional recognition and control, confidence, including celebrating talents and successes, competence, self-esteem, hopes and dreams and positive self-talk, friendship and role models, making safe choices and integrity, contribution including self-efficacy, kindness, gratitude and children’s rights.

Activities are designed to relax the children, allow them to have fun, encourage sharing of experiences and feelings, provide them with tools and strategies to cope with life experiences, setbacks and challenges and promote collaboration and optimism. We use participatory learning techniques including demonstration, energizers, songs, games, brainstorming, discussion, problem solving, role-play, arts and crafts. Children will also make their own calm down kit to take home.

Classes are small so book now to secure a place.

Keep shining ☀️

Brilliant group in a brilliant school. Loved every minute of getting to know these girls. Amazing work done too.

St. Marys were delighted to be the first post-primary school in the area to pilot the Ready4Anything Programme, facilitated by Mrs Natalie Whelehan. This programme is designed to teach resilience skills to young people. Nine of our Year 8 pupils took part in this 5 week programme, which looked at areas such as emotions, confidence, communication and children’s rights. The pupils engaged in interactive activities, arts and crafts, games and discussion. It was a wonderful experience for all involved.
