SCHEME DEADLINE MIDNIGHT ON SUNDAY 30TH AUGUST 2026 - DON'T DELAY - REACH OUT TO US TODAY .. 028 677 23884 (OPTION 1)

SEFF encourages awareness amongst those still not reached

The Troubles Permanent Disablement Payment Scheme (TPDPS) is overseen by the Victims Payment Board (VPB) and housed within the Department of Justice. It acknowledges the harm suffered by those injured in the N.I Troubles/conflict and aims to promote reconciliation
between people in connection with N.I’s troubled past.

The scheme can provide payments to those who have suffered a permanent disability (physical and/or psychological) as a result of an injury caused through no fault of their own, in an incident related to N.I Troubles.

An individual’s application will need to meet a number of criteria to be entitled to payments. For example, an injury caused by a Trouble Related Incident must have resulted in a permanent disability level of at least 14% as assessed by a suitably qualified
healthcare professional.

The Scheme has been operating since 31st August 2021 and SEFF (who support innocent victims/survivors of the violence across Northern Ireland and through outreach services into Republic of Ireland and Great Britain) are one of five groups within the victim/survivor
sector to have Welfare staff in place to support those wishing to make an application.

SEFF’s Director Kenny Donaldson explains: “Support for making an application can be made through our group, we will assist you with making the application and support you throughout the process, we will aim to give you a professional and empathic service throughout”.

“We have assisted well over 2,000 victims/survivors to submit applications as we reach year four of the five-year scheme. There have been many awards made to those whom we have supported, providing long overdue acknowledgement and in some cases transformative
sums of finance which will enable many to have a sense of financial security as they live out the latter years of their lives.

“Within SEFF we offer a full wraparound service, and we are conscious that given the nature of this scheme where an applicant is required to share their most painful, traumatic and intimate experiences that there is always a risk of traumatisation. We have
services in-house spanning counselling, wider welfare benefits support, advocacy, complementary therapies, check in telephone services, befriending and much more to support the needs of those engaging”.

“Please do reach out and contact our Welfare service on: 028 677 23884 (option 1) or via email: [email protected] and we will ensure that someone knowledgeable speaks to you about the scheme, the known criteria and the process which requires navigating
through”.

“We have SEFF offices across Northern Ireland and also access to partner group premises that offer clients the opportunity to meet in a confidential space, we can also offer the option of home visits in exceptional circumstances”.

“We want to see those eligible for the scheme receiving the support to which they are entitled, can it ever bring back that which was taken away? No, it cannot but it can help restore a sense of recognition of the injustice experienced and that matters to many
victims and survivors.

“We are aware that relatively speaking, there continues to be limited numbers of applications which have been submitted from victims/survivors based outside of Northern Ireland and the North West and North Regions are also under-represented versus the levels
of violence which occurred and the numbers of victims/survivors living there - effort is needed to redress this over the projected final year of the scheme.

“It is one thing to know something and to opt out - that is everyone’s individual right but not to be aware of something means there is no opportunity to opt in and that is not good enough. We are asking for a combined effort by those with influence and reach
across this Society; elected representatives, public policymakers, clergy, community and voluntary sector organisations etc,” concluded Mr Donaldson.

Eligibility:

• You suffered either physical or psychological harm (or both) as a result of a Troubles related incident and this has resulted in permanent disablement;

The Troubles-related incident must have:

• occurred in the United Kingdom (UK), or anywhere in Europe;

• taken place on or after 1 January 1966, but before 12 April 2010. The Victims’ Payments Board may apply discretion if the incident took place outside of these dates. Harm is considered to be caused by a Troubles-related incident if a person was:

• present at a Troubles-related incident;

• present in the immediate aftermath of a Troubles-related incident in which a loved one died or suffered an injury;

• responding, in the course of employment, to a Troubles-related incident, in which the person reasonably believed a loved one had died or suffered significant injury.

• A Posthumous application may be submitted on behalf of someone who has since passed away on or after 23rd December 2004 and who would have met the above criteria.

Contact the SEFF office for further information on: 028 677 23884 (selecting option 1) or email us to: [email protected]

Tomorrow on the 1st July we will remember 2 good friends, Hugh Clawson and Davy Fisher who left their family homes in the Lower Oldpark for the last time .Hugh and Davy went to enjoy a Saturday night out at their local Cliftonville FC and Cliftonville Cricket Club. On their way home in the early hours of Sunday morning the Ardoyne IRA Sinn Fein stopped them walking back home to their loved ones . The IRA Sinn Fein beat ,tortured and murdered the 2 life long friends and left them outside the Cliftonville Cricket Club House at the ground . No one was ever charged for these vile murders and the families, Lower Oldpark and Cliftonville Cricket sports community were left to suffer the loss of 2 well respected and loved men Hugh and Davy .
We will remember them 🙏

Is there a Memorial Service for Hugh and Davy at the Cliftonville Cricket ground being organised,anyone know ?
