I am thrilled to announce that I will be partnering with Limavady Workhouse Museum this October for a special day of events showcasing the history of this amazingly preserved workhouse.

Saturday 3rd October 2026

At 3pm I will be leading a tour around the workhouse buildings, recreating what life was like for those who worked and lived in the workhouse.

At 6pm I'll be delivering a talk in the very boardroom where the weekly Board of Guardian meetings were held all about the history of the workhouse and the workhouse system as a whole.

For anyone interested in social history and working-class history, this is going to be a wonderful opportunity to experience what life was like in the 19th century.

As Belfast hosts Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the remarkable partnership of Edward Bunting and Mary Ann McCracken is being celebrated for helping preserve Ireland’s ancient musical heritage.

Bunting is credited with being the first individual to transcribe many of the Gaelic airs and songs that had been strummed on harps in homes, meeting halls, taverns, and shebeens across Ireland for centuries.

Welcome to our newly elected member Crawford Gribben, professor of history at Queen's University Belfast.

He is a scholar of international repute and expert on early modern literature, history and religion. Over the last ten years, his work has transformed our understanding of John Owen, the seventeenth-century theologian and political writer.

Rich Peppiatt's new crime saga Bad Bridgets will begin production in Ireland this July for Netflix.

Inspired by the research of Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick, Bad Bridgets follows two sisters who flee famine, poverty and an abusive father for 19th-century New York, where they become entangled with the notorious "Bridgets" – a group of Irish women leaving chaos in their wake.

Written, directed and produced by BAFTA winner Rich Peppiatt (Kneecap), the film stars Emilia Jones and Alison Oliver, with an outstanding supporting cast including Colin Farrell, Steve Coogan, Charlie Heaton, Domhnall Gleeson, Himesh Patel, Niamh Algar and Simone Kirby.

Developed with support from Queen's University Belfast and produced with support from Northern Ireland Screen, Bad Bridgets promises a bold new take on Irish emigrant history.
