Centre for Global Education is delivering education classes to Palestinian children aged12-15 living in Beddawi camp, northern Lebanon at risk of dropping out of school. The programme provides classes in Arabic, English, Maths and Life Skills. It also delivers psychosocial support to help them manage mental health problems caused by exposure to conflict and extreme poverty. This project is funded by the INTO Global Solidarity Fund and delivered in partnership with the Women's Programs Association.

This morning I visited El Buss refugee camp in the southern city of Tyre which is 20km from Lebanon’s border with Israel. El Buss was subjected to an Israeli evacuation order back in March and most of the camp’s residents, Palestinian refugees, were forcibly displaced from the camp. Amnesty International has described the forced displacement of civilians using evacuation orders as “unlawful transfer” which “is a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and amounts to a war crime”. I also photographed the remains of a dozen houses destroyed in Israeli airstrikes on the camp which killed twelve residents. The UN has warned that repeated Israeli attacks on densely populated refugee camps “are war crimes and a violation of the UN Charter”. One family was living in a tent beside the ruins of their home. Most of the residents of El Buss have returned to the camp but live in constant fear of another Israeli escalation.

The Centre for Global Education is delivering an education programme to eighty children in three Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon (Beddawi, Nahr El-Bared and Burj Barajneh). The programme is being delivered to 12-15 year olds who have dropped out of school and includes classes on Arabic, English, Mathematics and Life Skills. The children also receive psychosocial support to manage mental health problems caused by exposure to conflict and extreme poverty. The programme is being delivered in partnership with the Women’s Programs Association, a Palestinian NGO based in Beirut. It is funded by NIPSA's Global Solidarity Fund.
