Contractors have now moved in under the cover of darkness to remove a lawful banner.
We're told this action was taken because of planning policy, yet many people point to other structures that have remained in place despite questions over planning. The Bobby Sands statue in West Belfast, which has been the subject of planning controversy still stands.
So how can a banner highlighting the record of local political parties be removed, while other contentious displays remain untouched?
The perception of double standards continues to grow. Time and time again, it appears that one set of rules applies to one community, and another set applies to everyone else.
People deserve consistency, fairness and equal treatment under the law—not selective enforcement.
