ALL CHILDREN TOGETHER AND THE STORY OF INTEGRATED EDUCATION IN NORTHERN IRELAND

This recent The Linen Hall exhibition tells the inspirational story of All Children Together, the parent-led, grassroots campaign group formed in the early 1970s that in 1981 went on to open Lagan College, the first planned Integrated school in Northern Ireland.

Early Years Support Grant now open for applications!

The Early Years Support Programme is designed to support Integrated Nursery and Primary Schools pupils aged 2-8. The programme particularly encourages projects that take a proactive and holistic approach to early intervention, helping children overcome challenges, improve outcomes and thrive both within and beyond the classroom.

Applications close on Friday 30 October 2026.

The IEF are delighted to partner with tenx9 for another free storytelling event - this time at the Black Box in on Wednesday 21 October at 7.30pm. We hope you can join us!

The event will focus on the theme them’uns which can of course be interpreted in many different ways so please do get in touch if you have a story that you’d like to share: tenx9.com/submissions.

Tenx9 is a storytelling event where nine people have up to ten minutes each to tell a true story from their own life. It was created in 2011 by Paul Doran & Pádraig Ó Tuama in Belfast. It aims to strip away the barriers that prevent people from sharing their experiences. It is always free of charge.

'Embracing the difference.'

Thanks to the Integrated Nursery schools- Brefne Integrated Nursery School, Bangor Integrated Nursery School, Ballymena Integrated Nursery School, Downshire Nursery School and Magherafelt Integrated Nursery School - who organised a great Transformed Integrated Nursery Cluster Joint Staff Development Day at Oxford Island last week.

Thanks to each Nursery for their work to make this happen, and for their work every day to create an Integrated space of belonging for all our children.

We were delighted to attend the Transformed Integrated Nursery Cluster Joint Staff Development Day with all the staff from Brefne Integrated Nursery School, Bangor Integrated Nursery School, Ballymena Integrated Nursery School , Downshire Nursery School and Magherafelt Nursery School. We had a wonderful start to the day with a session entitled "What Else Could Be True?" delivered by Victoria the Principal at Brefne INS, who helped us explore inclusion, belonging, implicit bias and the narratives we construct. We then had a keynote address from Professor Glenda Walsh from Stranmillis University College
who helped us consider the practical strategies for refocusing on meaningful child-led play. We closed the day with a session focussing on living out our Integrated Ethos in practice.
