Cadets & staff spent the day exploring the Harbottle area, following a route that took them up to the impressive Drake Stone, across open moorland, and down towards the remains of Harbottle Castle. The walk gave everyone a solid mix of navigation practice, terrain awareness, and hill fitness, all while enjoying views across the Coquet Valley.

Along the way, cadets discussed local history, including the significance of the Drake Stone and the strategic role Harbottle Castle once played. The route offered a great balance of challenge and reward, helping build confidence ahead of future training activities and expedition work.

✈️ Year 8 in September? Time to level up your Mondays & Thursdays!

If your young person is heading into Year 8 this September, this summer is the perfect time to try something new, make new mates, and discover what they’re capable of.

At 2522 (Bedlington) Squadron, our cadets don’t just sit around, they get stuck into:

• Flying & gliding
• Fieldcraft & adventure training
• First aid skills
• Leadership & confidence building
• Real RAF experiences

And they can come and see it for themselves with a taster evening, no pressure, no commitment, just a chance to find out what being an Air Cadet is all about.

🗓️ Taster evenings available every Monday or Thursday throughout the summer holidays.

Drop us a message to book a spot, we’ll make sure they’re welcomed, supported, and leave buzzing for more.

Give them something to be proud of this August.
2522 (Bedlington) Squadron is ready when they are.

Air Rifle Blue Badge Achievement – Cadet Thomas

Cadet Thomas has successfully achieved her Air Rifle Blue Badge, demonstrating safe handling, consistent accuracy, and strong progression on the range. This qualification reflects her commitment, focus, and willingness to develop key marksmanship skills, a fantastic achievement for both her and the squadron.

And the best part? You could achieve this too.

If you’re aged 12–17 and want to try shooting, flying, fieldcraft, adventure training and more, you can join 2522 (Bedlington) Squadron and start your own journey.

2522 (Bedlington) Squadron – Navigation Training Activity Summary

Cadets took part in a series of navigational exercises in beautiful Northumberland surroundings, following a route that incorporated sections of the Northumberland Coastal Path and St Cuthbert’s Way. Along the route, cadets explored elements of local history, including a visit to St Cuthbert’s Cave, and stopped at industrial heritage sites such as the historic lime kilns.

Throughout the activity, cadets practiced key map‑reading, route‑planning, and terrain‑awareness skills. The experience gained today will stand every participant in excellent stead as they prepare for their upcoming DofE Bronze Expedition.

2522 (BEDLINGTON) SQUADRON CADETS TAKE ON THE SIMONSIDE HILLS

Cadets from 2522 (Bedlington) Squadron spent the day trekking across the Simonside Hills, putting their navigation, teamwork, and resilience into practice. The route took them through some of Northumberland’s most striking landscapes, from forest trails to open moorland with sweeping views across the county. A chance to pay our respects to another airman who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Day treks like this are more than just a good walk. They build confidence, map‑reading skills, leadership, and the sense of camaraderie that has always been at the heart of the Air Cadets. For many young people, it’s experiences like these that spark a lifelong interest in aviation, adventure and service.

A great achievement by all involved

A huge well done to the cadets of 2522 (Bedlington) Squadron who competed in the 2026 Inter‑Squadron Volleyball Competition. No medals on this occasion, but plenty of grit, teamwork, and squadron pride on display throughout.

Next up: the Inter‑Squadron Athletics Competition, time to reset, refocus, and show what we can do on the track and field.
