☀️ We were delighted to recently host our Supervisor & Mentor Seminar in the very sunny surroundings of Wrest Park – a fantastic opportunity to bring together trainee supervisors and mentors from our upcoming placement gardens.

The seminar is an important part of our programme, giving participating garden team members the chance to share experiences, gain valuable updates, and deepen their understanding of the crucial role they play in supporting the next generation of horticulturists 🌿

This year we were very grateful to be joined by Richard Claxton, Chief Executive of The National Garden Scheme. Richard kindly talked about the amazing work that The National Garden Scheme do in giving visitors access to exceptional private gardens, raising money for nursing and health charities. Thank you, Richard, and our thanks to the National Garden Scheme for their ongoing support of the HBGTP.

Also, a huge thank you to everyone from the gardens who attended and contributed to making the day such a success. We look forward to working together throughout the upcoming placement season! 🥳

20 years of the HBGTP 🎉

This year marks a milestone for the Historic and Botanic Garden Training Programme (HBGTP) as it celebrates its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of supporting careers in horticulture!

The programme was established in 2006 by English Heritage through support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and has since offered placements to over 350 trainees at over 100 placement gardens, with gardens extending from as far north as Inverness and as far south as the Isle of Wight.

The HBGTP extends its sincere thanks to the many partners and supporters whose contributions over the past 20 years have played a vital role in its creation, growth and continued success.

Today the programme is supported by a network of partners and organisations including the National Garden Scheme (NGS), the Royal Horticultural Society Bursaries Scheme, the Stanley Smith (UK) Horticultural Trust and the Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust.
