Spring is on the way !!!!
So uplifting to see the snowdrops making an appearance in the Forest School grounds today.

Children who do not participate in risky play experience two common outcomes. The first is that these children fear life. This prevents them from taking any chances, which leads to a very boring and unaccomplished life. The second is that these children end up doing extremely risky and outright dangerous things, but don’t know how to handle themselves properly in the process. Therefore, they tend to hurt themselves or others in the process. Risky play sounds horrifying to today’s parents. However, step back 20 or 30 years and the elements of risky play would have been considered normal childhood experiences. Aspects of risky Play Includes: Dangerous Elements – Jumping off of a swing at full height Rapid Speed – Rollerblading down a big hill Getting Lost – Exploring a field by your house Harmful Tools – Using a hammer and nails Great Heights – Climbing a tree Rough and Tumble – Wrestling with a sibling or friend When put this way, people often seem to come to terms with the fact that risky play in childhood is normal. During June the Caterpillar children have been very busy. They have enjoyed
* Harvesting potatoes- We grew 74 potatoes . We used these potatoes to print with and used a selection of different tools to chop, cut cook the potatoes. They were truly delicious!!!!!!!!
* Developing our hand eye coordination through a variety of activities.
* Exploring and experimenting in the digging area. We have a gorgeous new mud kitchen made by one of our lovely Grandads. We have been digging, filling and emptying containers, making mud cakes and looking for worms. Hands on learning supports communication and language, understanding the world and mathematical concepts. ( heavy, light, full, half full, empty, brimming, etc)
* Developing and strengthening our fine motor skills using the water spray bottles in the garden during the warmer weather and posting pipe cleaner into the colander.
* One of our topic has been transport and holidays - we made our own car wash in the garden.
* Lots of different mathematical activities - counting and looking at quantities.
* Exploring our environment, colour hunting with our colour wands looking for different shades of pink objects.
* Developing and strengthening our gross motor skills and coordination, inside and outside when the weather was not on our side .
* Lots of stories around our camp fire (pretend one with blue boundary line) in the book corner.
