💙“Pupils flourish in the school’s nurturing environment.” 💙

Those aren't our words. They're from the Independent Schools Inspectorate, following our latest inspection – and we couldn't be prouder.

Our new ISI report has now been published, with all relevant Standards met across every area inspected, including education, wellbeing, leadership and governance, pupils' development and safeguarding.

Inspectors recognised the positive relationships between our staff and children, describing a supportive environment where "positive relationships with staff encourage pupils to be relaxed and content.”

They found our children to be enthusiastic learners, polite, considerate and well behaved – and recognised that "Children in the early years thrive because of the nurturing relationships they form with staff"

Because when children feel happy, safe and supported, they flourish. This is what Polam School and Nursery is all about.

It is always lovely when our pupils from different year groups spend time together, today, as part of our week to be well, Year 2 and Reception children came together to read, sharing their enjoyment of books and passing on a love of learning.

This Wellbeing Week, we’re looking at something that sits at the heart of life at Polam – helping children understand themselves and how they feel.

Mrs Wharton, our Deputy Head and Wellbeing Lead recently spoke with Tim Fisher, owner of Redshift Education, about the importance of helping young children find the words to express their emotions.

For young children, being able to say “I’m worried”, “I’m frustrated” or “I need some help” is a huge step. By giving children that emotional vocabulary from an early age, we help them feel heard, understood and better able to manage the big feelings that are all part of growing up.

At Polam, wellbeing isn’t something we focus on for just one week. It’s part of how we support our children every day.

It’s Week to Be Well at Polam!

This week, we’re putting an extra focus on something that matters to us all year round – helping our children understand how to look after their own wellbeing.

Throughout the week, children across Polam will be exploring our 5 Ways to Be Well:

Be Active
Take Notice
Keep Learning
Give

From getting active and spending time outdoors, to trying something new, showing kindness and simply taking time to notice the world around us, there will be lots happening across the school.

And, of course, our wellbeing dog Ruby will be playing her part too!

We’re looking forward to sharing some of the things our children get up to throughout the week.

Last week we welcomed Ofsted into our Early Years provision, giving us the opportunity to share the wonderful work that takes place across our Nursery every day.

We were incredibly proud of our children, who simply carried on being themselves – happy, curious and completely engaged in their learning.

It was also an opportunity for our team to showcase the care, knowledge and commitment that goes into giving our youngest children the very best possible start at Polam.

A huge thank you to our Early Years team, our children and our families for everything they do to make Polam such a special place.

We now look forward to receiving the final report and sharing it with our families.
