📣 Could you help decide which youth projects receive funding in Bedford?

Last week, we attended The Bedford College Group Freshers’ Fayre at Bedford Sixth Form to recruit young people for Bedford Giving’s next Youth Panel.

Being part of the Youth Panel is an opportunity to share your ideas, represent young people in Bedford and help decide how funding should be used to support local youth projects.

Tomorrow, Thursday, we’ll be at Bedford College to meet even more potential panel members!

Come and find our stand, say hello and discover how you can help create positive change for young people across Bedford. 💚

👷‍♂️ A Fantastic Industry Insight Session from Willmott Dixon 🏗️

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Gerard Hughes MCIOB from Willmott Dixon to Bedford College, part of The Bedford College Group, where he delivered an engaging session to our T Level Design, Surveying and Planning students.

Gerard shared the story of Willmott Dixon, highlighted some of their current projects, and gave students a valuable insight into life within the construction industry. Students also enjoyed taking part in an interactive quiz, and learning more about Willmott Dixon's exciting T Level placement programme - which includes shadowing industry professionals, working on a live community project and developing workplace and employability skills.

We are excited to see our Year 1 students take the next step towards these incredible opportunities - thank you again to Gerard and the team at Willmott Dixon for investing in the next generation of talent.

Together, they’ve already raised over £1,600! 🎉

From learning English from scratch to GCSE maths success 🎓

Four students at Bedford College, part of The Bedford College Group, have successfully achieved their GCSE maths after arriving in the UK as refugees or asylum seekers and beginning their studies at entry level.

Faisal Abdallah, who fled Sudan, achieved a grade 4, alongside fellow ESOL for Maths (16-18) students Ha Nhat Tran (grade 4), Khan-Ly Nguyen (grade 5) and Nam Nguyen (grade 5).

All four began at entry level following their initial assessment before progressing through Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills and ultimately reaching GCSE standard.

Their achievement is particularly significant as they were learning a demanding new curriculum in an unfamiliar language while also adjusting to life in a new country.

A fantastic achievement for Faisal, Ha Nhat, Khan-Ly and Nam. 👏
