I love the use of the car indicator as metronome, very novel. It just has to be a piece that goes at that exact tempo and obviously don't try driving at the same time!

Good to see somebody using Dalcroze Eurhythmics in their teaching, especially with the younger pupils. This game helps to develop a greater awareness and sense of pulse through what Dalcroze termed 'Embodyment' and there are many such fun games students of all ages can engage in. Sadly, so few music teachers have even heard of Eurhythmics let alone use it in their teaching.

Practising is the same the world over. At the end of the day, this is what it all comes down to.

This is an instrument you don't see that often.

Nice arrangement of a Beethoven piano piece for saxophone choir, featuring a bass saxophone and sopranino sax.

A nice piece to practise double-tonguing technique - it would work well on clarinet.

I just wanted to share this lovely email from one of my past saxophone students. Matlida stoppoed lessons when taking her A levels and then went to University. I very rarely ever hear from students once they stop having lessons, so it was lovely to hear she had continued with her playing and succeeded in her ambition to get into the Kinetica Bloco big band.

I finally received my copies of the CD recording I made last August with BCE. This sadly marks the end of my association with the ensemble. I have been a member for several years now, but making this recording presented particular difficulties for me as a disabled person with mobility issues. They were difficult enough even for able-bodied members and sitting for hours in such cramped and uncomfortable conditions over a four day period, with only a few short breaks between sessions, played utter havoc with my back. I do not feel the management gave adequate attention to the health & safety considerations of using this particular venue for the recording or to other practical considerations, like pigeons in the bell tower, low flying aircraft from the nearby flying school, squeaky chairs etc, etc. I feel they placed cost-cutting before the well-being of its members and this is just not acceptable.
On a more positive note, I will say that the playing of the Finzi Five Bagattelles by Anna Hashimoto is truly sublime. It is also a superb arrangement of these pieces by our Musical Director, Anthony Bailey.
Such an effective duo combination and some lovely 'expressive' playing from both. Such clear and sonorous tone in the chalameau too. Is that a German system clarinet? This is a type of klezmer style piece but her tone is classical and particularly love the finesse in how she produces such a mellow and full sound on the 'throat notes'.

Yes! This is what music 'should' be about, not the arrogant pretentiousness and inflated egos of those who think they are somehow greater than the music they are performing. I also very much identify with Tommy Igoes story of his early involvement in music. My playing became a refuge in many ways. Not only did it give me greater self-confidence, it helped me to cope with significant traumas I experienced during my adolescence.
I was a tall, awkward, skinny, pale, lanky boy. My school really had no music program. I was a loner. An outcast misfit, there was nowhere to go. Music was my entry. Into everything. Social, emotional, maturity, failure, success, resiliency, sudden popularity and on and on.
I got really good at it and made it a profession - whatever- but the reasons I still play is because I just wanna be part of the party!. I just love being part of it all. That's the motivation. The expertise and success are side products of the real reason.
this is also the secret of my success at teaching at the highest levels of the food chain. I know it's not about what- it's about why. The what is incidental. Every student comes to me will be sat in a chair. We are going to talk first, and you're gonna tell me why you're in my studio. And it's always the same answer. We just have this deep need to make music. Civilians do not understand.
but if you are, as I call it, "infected with the disease" you know exactly what I'm talking about. We just want to make music.

My old dog, rest his soul used to howl the place down whenever I played this.
